I have battled keratosis pilaris on my upper arms for years. My dermatologist prescribed this lotion to me in the past, but now it is in an OTC version. It is helpful to reduce the swelling and redness associated with those dreadful red bumps. In my experience, though, you need to start with a topical steroid cream for a couple of weeks before using this to get the best benefit. It is also a slow process and takes months to correct.

75-90% effective (for me),

This was recommended to me by a professional dermatologist. I had been suffering as a young teenager with keratosis pilaris. It covers mostly my legs, buttocks, and backside of my upper arms. I have been using this and only this for over ten years now. I don't know that there is anything else better. (If there is, someone please let me know). This cream is very effective against my troubled skin. It is more of a challenge to keep the bumps down in the winter time, but I guess I could apply it more regularly too. I hesitate sometimes because of the somewhat strong ammonia smell and I wonder how this and the acids may harm my skin in the long run. Still, the benefit outweighs any other complaints.

I actually bought the product, originally, to moisturize my face after working out and showering at the gym. At first, it felt a little "greasy", but my face really did feel (and look) better. The unexpected benefit is that my thumbs no longer split/crack in the winter from drying out (at the corner of the thumb-nail). For the last two winters (north-central Illinois) my hands have been softer and crack-free! I've recommended the product to some friends with dry hands and they also love it.

I am a African-American woman and I have Kerotis Pilaris in the worst way. I have it all over my legs, upper thighs lower thighs, breasts, on my elbows. I have tried every product out there for it, With Eucerin supposing to be the best product for excema and the like. I've used Eucerin and Aveeno products on and off for years. I've seen some softening of my skin but not to my satisifaction. So when I read the reviews about this lotion I was anxious to try it because I had never heard of it, my dermotologist at the time certainly didn't recommend it, he recommended using Cetaphil products which are okay. I've used this lotion for two works and I've noticed my skin getting softer, but the back of my thighs still feel rough and I use this product nearly everyday. I'm really wanting it work, so I plan on sticking with it until I use it all up. I've read that there is no cure for KP, and this lotion hasn't made the bumps disappear, but I just want softer skin for myself.

I have used this product for many years to help with dry skin. It's best to use it right after you shower and while your skin is still wet so it will hold in the moisture. Just wish it wasn't so costly.

Using Amlactin twice daily has improved my skin more than any other moisturizer I've tried so far.

AmLactin Cream -- all three versions,

AmLactin Cream USED to be a great product. I started using it years ago after my dermatologist recommended it for my dry winter skin. About a year ago I ran out of it and purchased a couple of new tubes. I noticed the tube looked different (it used to have a dark green cap), but there was no indication on the tube that the cream had changed. Upon using it, I was VERY DISAPPOINTED to discover it was much less effective than the original version. It seemed like a different product; its consistency was much looser than it had been and it smelled different. It didn't "last" nearly as long as its predecessor. I called the manufacturer because I was curious and spoke with a woman in the pharmacy department. At first she said that only the packaging had changed. After putting me on hold and checking with some others at the company, she told me that THE FORMULA CHANGED WHEN THE PACKAGING CHANGED. I'm now looking for a new solution to my dry skin problem...

I purchased this in hopes to remove the unsightly Keratosis pilaris on my upper arms. So far so good. My skin is extremely soft and the lotion doesn't have any scent whatsoever. I didn't give it 5 stars because there are some bumps still present, but I've read other reviews that have said it takes awhile for it to completely get rid of them so now we wait...

I a member of a few online skincare forums. I came across AmLactin while browsing those sites. This is a wonderful product for women (and men) who have ignored the skin on their bodies for awhile. Growing up in Florida, I spent far too much time in the sun. My chest and arms are sun damaged but have dramatically improved in appearance and texture since using AmLactin. I use it all over my body. It will make your skin VERY soft in a very short amount of time. As far as a quality dermatology product, it's wonderful. Skip right over everything else in the drugstore and go straight for the AmLactin. If you have sensitive skin, it may burn initially as it contains glycolic acid. Hang in there. That tingle will go away in a matter of days. The only reason for minus a star is the smell. It does smell like ammonia, but it mostly goes away after a few hours. It's not a strong ammonia scent but it's definitely there. For me, it's worth it so I can have lovely skin.

I used to use presciption lotion which went up to $90 a bottle. Read these ingredients and they are the same. VERY satisfied with this product. Silky smooth skin.
