Product Description

The AmScope SE305R-AZ-E digital stereo microscope has interchangeable pairs of 10x18mm and 20x10mmwidefield eyepieces, 1x and 3x objectives, upper and lower halogen lighting, two stage plates, and an arm stand. The 0.3MP camera has a CMOS color sensor, image capture and editing software, and USB 2.0 output to capture or display still or video images on a computer or projector. The forward-mounted binocular viewing head has an interpupillary range of 55 to 75mm and a 45-degree inclination to ease viewing for young users. The WF10x18mm and WF20x10mm eyepieces combine with the 1x and 3x objectives to provide 10x, 20x, 30x, and 60x magnification, and a longer working distance for inspecting large-scale specimens that require handling or repair. The optical glass lenses provide sharp images, and are fully coated to ensure high-resolution images. Dioptric adjustment accommodates individual eye-strength differences, and eye guards ensure comfortable viewing. A digital stereo microscope, sometimes called an inspection or dissection microscope, has low magnification and a long working distance that enables users to manipulate the object being inspected, and is used where image capture, detailed records, or documentation is required.

The 0.3MP digital camera has a CMOS color sensor for displaying still microscopy images and streaming live videos to a computer or projector, and 40x magnification. The camera can be mounted in any 23mm eye tube. The camera includes image capture and editing software that provides still image and live video capture and editing capability, including measurement functions. The software supports JPG, TIF, GIF, PSD, WMF, and BMP file formats and is compatible with Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8; Mac OS X; and Linux. Camera drivers are compatible with Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8; Mac OS X; and Linux. The software includes Windows APIs for native C/C++, C#, DirectShow, Twain, and LabVIEW that enable custom application development. The camera has a USB 2.0 data port (cable included).

The microscope has upper (episcopic) illumination that reflects light off the specimen for enhanced visibility of opaque specimens, and lower (diascopic) illumination that transmits light up through the specimen for enhanced visibility of translucent and transparent objects. The 10W halogen light source provides bright light in a concentrated path. Bilateral coarse focus eases use for left- and right-handed users. The stage has a frosted stage plate for use with lower (transmitted) lighting, and a reversible black and white stage plate that provides contrast with light- and dark-colored specimens when used with upper (reflected) lighting. Stage clips that secure the specimen during viewing. The microscope has a 2-1/8" (53mm) working distance. All metal construction is durable and stain-resistant.

Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying magnification abilities. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also utilize LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries.

United Scope manufactures microscopy equipment and accessories under the brand name AmScope. The company, founded in 1996, is headquartered in Irvine, CA.

I am totally satisfied with this microscope. It has the power that I was looking for, and the camera works great. I had to use it for awhile to figure out how everything works, but it displays on my computer screen, and I can take pictures of what I want and store them in a file. I would strongly recommend this seller to anyone looking for good quality, and honesty in dealing. Another bit of info that I would like to add is, you can do a little jury rigging and set the camera to focus thru one of the 20X lenses, focus it, and take the picture, and save it to your computer. The 10X lenses are too long. I've had to use scotch tape to keep it in place, but it still works very well for me.

'Scope was exactly what I expected. Works well, camera actually increases the magnification considerably and I think it will work with most any micro- or telescope that has the standard 3 cm size eyepiece. the CD-ROM that came with it was unreadable, but their customer service gave me a download link for the software.

The reasons for give the scope a 3-star instead of a 5-star rating is the camera. We are using the scope in the geology field. Unfortunitally the camera will not zoom out to take photos of a complete specimen but rather a particular spot on the specimen. I had no prior knowledge of scopes so it was a bit of a hassle trying to figure things out as the scope comes with no instructions for using the USB camera attachment. Other than this, it is a really good scope that does what it advertises to do.

This is an awesome scope for the price. The camera is a little touchy to use at first, but once you get the hang of it, it is a useful and powerful addition to this scope. The scope itself is very easy to use and has a very good viewing area. The scope is especially handy with the double lights: one above for viewing larger samples and one below for viewing slides. For the price I cannot think of anything to complain about.

Hey, this thing is awesome! I use it to look at coins, and the 30x setting is just perfect for this. No more eye strains from peering through loupes for me!! NOPE!

The first one I ordered, the top light ballast blew out after the first 2 minutes. No joke. Replacing the bulb did nothing. But, I called Amazon and they sent a replacement immediately and it arrived in 2 days. I've used the replacement for around 40 hours, and it has worked perfectly. The scope has performed well beyond expectations at this price point.

Some coin collectors are buying those pen microscopes, like the DinoLite. Decent ones cost more than this AmScope, so this is a no brainer here folks. I haven't used the camera it came with, it looks like junk to me. But then again, I didn't buy this microscope for the camera.

I've been using my Sony DSC-T110 to take pictures directly through the eye piece, without changing it out. This point and shoot camera is 16MP and has a flat face with the lens housed inside the camera. No retractable optics. I just hold my camera against the eye piece and get AMAZING shots. By the way, this style of camera is PERFECT for macro - amazing clarity. For whatever reason, this is a tip that people seem not to have caught on to. I've been using point-and-shoots to photograph directly through loupes the past few years - and often get better shots than those with $2000 D-SLR setups and light boxes.

Take it or leave it, folks!

I have been using this microscope in my home office for over 6 months now. Despite its limitations, this is an amazing microscope for the price that they are selling at. I have used ones with nicer features in professional labs but they are well over 10x the cost as well.

The only thing that I am not completely satisfied with is the USB microscope. I won't take any stars away from this item because I did not look closely enough to realize that 0.3MP is only 640x480 which may still be good enough for most hobbyists. If I had the option of doing this purchase over again, I would have gotten the same exact microscope without the USB camera and put that extra ~$30 towards one of AmScope's DSLR adapters so that I could take higher resolution photos with my Nikon.

It is true that you get what you pay for, but for what you get with this scope, it does have amazing value!

I'll have to admit that I was spoiled by a higher end scope, but for the cost of this scope I can't complain. It does everything that I want and then some, I just wish there was somewhere to store the extra items that come with the scope.
The camera is a nice addition also. I haven't messed around with it too much, but the few pictures that I have taken came out alright.

The only complaint that I have is with the light, it would be nice if it were adjustable or more powerful. I find that I have to add an additional lamp to get enough light, but then again, I had to do the same thing with the high end microscope I had previously.
All in all, I'm very pleased with this scope.

The optical features of this microscope are fine - I use it for mineral specimens, small parts detailing and the like. But I am getting older and my eyesight makes me want to put a pix up on a large monitor, so I really bought this for the digital features. BUT, I do NOT like having to replace one eyepiece with the camera (a mere 640x320 sensor in a mega-mega- pixel era) or the impossibility of reading the on-disc manual, with its very small type and Japlish writing. I even printed out part of the manual, but it is NO help. Were I to do it again, I would buy a better optical stereo-microscope and hold off on the digital part until it becomes most attuned with MY needs.
