The second release from Comorian enchantress, Nawal, is superb. An acoustic blend of traditional instruments such as the three string gambusi, african percussion and a vocal harmonies are worked to a trance-inducing fusion that is never far from it's roots in the islands east of africa, in the Indian Ocean.
Though, traditional it isn't, simply because Nawal is a woman and a bit of a rebel at that. The opening chant may pass easily under many radars but in her homeland it is frowned upon to see a woman sing (on stage), not to mention, sing sacred text. The songs in english, french and comorian are a call to our collective spiritual awareness, and yet thanks to contrabass by Idriss Mlanao and percussion by Melissa Cara Rigoli they cut loose a call to action - dance action!

For those of us who don't know the particulars of music, only that we enjoy what we hear, this is a wonderful album. Read the preceding post to learn more about the music itself. Like Deva Premal - this album contains music that can allow you to meditate and relax, or to feel invigorated. The message throughout the album is one of love, hope, and peace. A wonderful discovery.
