The freezer and refrigerator doors on the front are done with a elegant yet durable stainless-steel. Fingerprints are not easily seen, if at all. However you will notice any large smears that end up on the surface. A basic spray cleaner (like Windex) and a wipe with a paper towel will clean the doors easily and have them looking spotless again. The sides and the top of this Amana are a glossy black color, with a typical magnetic surface for pinning up magnets to the fridge.
At 18.5 cubic feet of space, with dimensions of 66 inches in height, 33 inches wide and a depth of about 30 inches, its small foot print makes this a great choice for those needing to conserve on space or with limited space available.
Don't let the small exterior design fool you, the inside is packed with space maximizing adjustable shelves, so you can make use of every inch of space. Each shelf is half the width of the interior, so you can either put two together and make a single long shelf or alternate them, making use of all the available room if you don't typically need to store tall items. Example: If you buy tall 2 liter bottles of soda you may want to space them for more height between them than you would for storing a 12 pack of soda that lies flat and long. You can set the shelves up so whether you're storing a sheet cake or a watermelon, it will all fit.Read more ›
Update on October 8, 2013: I usually place updates at the end of my review. For the last few months I have been enjoying this fridge and was going to update it to reflect the enjoyment I have been having. However, it is now leaking really badly and I felt the need to let others know to not buy this refrigerator until they fix a design flaw within the unit.
Several weeks ago I noticed a thick layer of ice on the bottom of the freezer. It turned into a nightly ritual of me removing the (layer) of ice at night. Then I noticed I was having huge puddles of water in front of the fridge. I went to research how to fix it myself and found several people are having the same issue as I am having. You have to remove the baskets, the freezer door, and a lot of screws to get to the drain and it is something you have to do every few weeks. It is not an easy task. I noticed someone else wrote they were having the same problem on this review page, it is the same issue I am having.
I am going to call Amana but the fridge is a few months out of warranty. I feel if this many people, I have read other forums of consumers with the same model number having the same issue; Amana needs to repair the issue. I have a feeling they are going to say it is my issue since it is out of warranty but I do take comfort knowing I am not alone with the problem since so many others are having the same problem. I then plan to call a Sears repair man since they sell the fridge and hopefully they can come up with some sort of solution.Read more ›
1) At the time I ordered this, the dimensions were listed twice - both different - on Amazon. And because I thought it was taller than a standard 30" refrigerator (at about 69" instead of 66"), I took down a cabinet to make space. Turns out the main part of the unit does stand at less than 66" tall. I suggest checking Amana's website for exact dimensions because they ARE correct. That said, I do think this is the right size for a 30" refrigerator, as finding cabinets to fit above other sizes would be difficult.
2) Some (expanding) insulation was escaping the stainless steel seams at first, but I could easily remove it with my fingernail. This only made me check every seam thoroughly and realize just how nicely all the pieces are shaped - and without imperfection. One can see the hole on the bottom of the door where this was added, and at least I know they put enough in and filled the entire cavity.
3) There are two nylon screws that cover the holes that you don't use for the door handle. They are not bad looking, but I think they could have included some stainless steel screws or something that matches slightly better and is more durable. And this is actually the only enduring negative I can think of, albeit a small one.
I have an old house that I have gotten to function better than most new houses over the years in every way. And I take great pride in that. Having only 30" for a refrigerator is just another setback of an old house. And there really aren't many high end models available in 30". This refrigerator is a gem because it has all the high end features that most people want out of a bigger model without taking up space I don't have:
1) Looks.Read more ›
