I almost cried when my old dryer died, I hate buying new appliances. But I did search reviews for days and decided on the Amana Ned4500 and I've been happy ever since.
It's a nice looking dryer, bright white, blue knobs look cool. A nice change from black knobs.
There is a setting for 'energy preferred' which I have tried but it's not for me, yet I can see how someone else might love it. My experience with EP has been that no matter what I have in there, tees, towels, just sheets, whatever, they come out a little damp. Now, if you were trying to not shrink something, that would be a great setting! Or if you like to finish with a line dry for that summer scent on your laundry, then the EP (energy preferred) would be an awesome setting! So, I didn't take off for that on my review.
I tend to pick one setting and run with it, so for me it's under Automatic Dry: VERY DRY. I love that setting. It does get everything, no matter what's in there, super dry. I have not seen any unusual wear and tear on my clothing from this setting so I'll keep using it.
You can choose from Timed Dry HIGH HEAT or Timed Dry LOW HEAT. I use high. When the buzzer sounds to let me know the dryer is done, my clothes are good and dry, not wrinkled and are ready to fold. It also spins the clothes to avoid wrinkles if you miss the buzzer, which brings me to.......
The buzzer. OHMYGOSH It's the LOUDEST, LONGEST dryer buzzer on the planet, imo! Wow, everyone hears it when it goes off, and it goes off for a while. BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZTTTTTTTT! It's like it's saying "GET IN HERE, I'M DONE!!!! HURRY!"
The buzzer, thankfully, can be turned off per load, which I do use.

I am amazed at the ease of ordering this dryer! I love Amana's...the last one we had lasted almost 20 years! With a quick click, I had this one on a truck and on its way to our cabin! The delivery folks were amazing and took great care in the set up! The space is huge and can fit 8-10 large beach towels! It is quiet and efficient! I highly recommend this Amana dryer!

This is the old-school Whirlpool dryer from 20 years ago, Whirlpool is now marketing them under the Amana name while selling the newer upscale dryers under their own name. It's a no-frills dryer with one knob that selects the temperature and cycle, but is much larger inside than the low-end GE dryer and has a larger lint basket too. Knocked off one star simply because it's so no-frills with no stainless tub or anything, otherwise it does the job that Whirlpool dryers have always done and because they've been making them since before most Amazon.com users were born, parts to fix this thing will be available for years and years, so it should last forever. Do make sure that the door to your laundry room is at *least* 28 inches wide, otherwise you won't get this dryer in there -- yes, it's a big boy!

We received this dryer in only 5 days from the order date. We got free shipping, and our total was LESS THAN $300.00. I have since found out that these are the new release of the old school Whirlpool dryers. It arrived In absolute perfect condition, and was professionally delivered by 2 very nice guys in a large bobtail truck from a national company. They brought it in, and helped me unpack it, and set it up, and even hauled our old dead dryer away. Which was a Whirpool almost identical to the new Amana, that was 20 years old. This doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, or electronics, but my wife says it works great. I could not have gotten a better deal if I had bought it here in Houston at a retail outlet. My grand total for this item was $283.00. A STEAL.

I purchased this dryer on a Tuesday. Took it home, hooked it up, and everything worked great. About an hour later I realize that it has not yet shut off during the 'automatic' setting. Clothes inside were completely dry but the timer knob had not moved at all. I tried the timer on all of the 'automatic' settings and on the 'timed' settings. Nothing. I returned the dryer to ABC Warehouse and they swapped it out for a new one. I get the 2nd dryer home, hook it up, and it runs loudly for about 10 seconds and then shuts off. After a few minutes I am able to start it again and again it shuts off after 5 seconds. I cannot get the dryer to run for more than a few seconds at a time. I take that dryer back. Now Friday, I am picking up the 3rd dryer in 4 days. 3rd time is the charm right? There is no way I can get a 3rd bad dryer right? Wrong. I get the 3rd dryer home, hook it up, and again the timer does not work. I spoke with Amana this morning and after running through all of their questions, they say it is hooked up correctly and cannot give any idea what is going on. I have never had an appliance not work right out of the box, let alone 3 in a row. I read many other reviews on this dryer and decided to buy it based on the number of positive experiences. Maybe it was just bad luck, maybe just coincidence, but I must say it will be quite awhile before I trust the Amana/Whirpool/Maytag names again.
