1.0 out of 5 stars TWO $300 REPAIRS IN ONE SUMMER AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED!, August 29, 2011
By
This review is from: Amana 19 cu. ft. Top-Freezer Refrigerator, A9RXNMFWW, White (Misc.)
We learned to live with the unusual noises that the new Amana Refrigerators make, but after the warranty expired so did the fan that disburses the cold air. The food started to get warm but the freezer stayed frozen.

Then just a month later the frozen food started to thaw & we found that the compressor was no longer circulating the coolant. Only cool air was circulating. This time the part was covered by a warranty, but the 3 hours of labor was not.

Our first Amana Refrigerator (1995) was actually made by Amana. I have come to find out that Amana has been sold & owned by 3 different companies since then. Now they are a part of Whirlpool and it shows.

1.0 out of 5 stars ONLY 2 YEARS OLD - TWO REPAIRS WITHIN 60 DAYS!!!, January 12, 2012
This review is from: Amana 19 cu. ft. Top-Freezer Refrigerator, A9RXNMFWW, White (Misc.)
When this fridge was a little over two years old (purchased summer '09), the thermostat (cold control) failed, necessitating a $140 repair. When I called Amana to complain, they offered me a "discount" on an extended warranty. They "generously" offered a $450+ warranty that I believe covered the unit for several years. Of course, we certainly weren't about to spend more money on this, and hoped this was an isolated incident. Then last week, the evaporator fan (that circulates the cold air) broke, and another $130 was spent. These problems were less than 60 days apart! Again, I called Amana, and asked was there anything they could offer to me in the way of customer service or compensation. And again, the rep tried to sell me an extended warranty. As if we want to throw good money after bad?!?!

I wish I read the first review after the original repair. Apparently Whirlpool makes Amana and many other brands, and I will be staying away from their products in the future. If another problem occurs, this unit will be replaced with a GE or Frigidaire, both with good ratings from "Consumer Reports".

IMHO, it is better to keep an old appliance that is working well, than to replace it with an "energy efficient" appliance that will cost you more in repair bills than your previous utility bills. Apparently "planned obsolescence" is the norm.
