This is the 2nd Kay Hopper book I read. The 1st one was Finding Laura & I loved it. I thought I was in for another great one when I bought it through Amazon. Now, after reading the book, hate to say I was disappointed.

Hooper seems to adopt a common story frame or setting in her works. Stories always happened in a big mansion with an old person in control, then walked in a beautiful woman from somewhere, and one can bet hot sex is following in the mansion's gazebo. This is all right but in Amanda, Hooper failed to win readers over to Amanda's side by convincing that Amanda was worthy, so that we could be afraid and worried for her. Her words, acts and thinking did not tell me she was the real Daulton, and not a crook though she threatened to leave Jesse when Jesse wanted to change his will in Amanda's favor. Also, the falling in love with Walker happened within a finger snap - no telling of how she began to fall for a man who had always been suspecting and questioning her and at times even hostile to her. Lastly, the explanation that Amanda gave for using someone's resume and identity to protect herself from danger was thin.

I hope Amanda was not as good as Finding Laura is because Amanda is an earlier book and Hooper is improving along. I also hope that her future books are more polished and sophisticated, and please no more gazebos.

Amanda is a wonderful story, full of colorful characters and a quick plot. "Amanda" has returned home after 20 years when she and her mother left when she was a child. She cannot prove that she is the real Amanda, and her relatives are all sceptical. Amanda doesn't really care if they believe her or not. She just wants to know why her mother took her and ran so many years ago. Amanda must deal with an unexpected romantic intrest in her family's lawyer and her old friend, Walker. As she asks questions however horrible things begin to happen. A trainer at the stable is killed, Amanda is poisoned, and her protective dogs go missing, and she can only asume they have been taken. Amanda must find out why her mother took her and ran before it's too late.

This was a very good book, that drew me in. The characters are interesting and the plot keeps you guessing. I've read it many times over the years, and if you like suspenseful romances you will too.

I started this book with mixed feelings. The only other Kay Hooper books that I have read are her 'Evil' trilogy. I enjoyed them, but there wasn't enough romance for me, so that's what I expected with Amanda, but I still decided to try it. I was not dissapointed with this book. It had romance with just the right amount of suspense and personal conflict added in.

Amanda has returned to her childhood home after a thirty year absence. She was nine years old when her and her mother left in the cover of the night. She didn't expect a warm welcome from her 'family' and she wasn't dissapointed. She didn't think anyone would try to kill her though.

Walker is the Daulton family lawyer and he is paid to be suspicous of strangers showing up claiming to be the long lost Amanda Daulton. After all, there is a fortune at stake. He doesn't know what to make of this woman whom he is sure is an imposter. He feels desire for her, but at the same time he resents her for lying to him about who she really is and how she has spent the last twenty years.

There are other characters in this book that will hold you spellbound. Sully, Jesse, Kate, Ben, Reece, and Maggie. I've read that many people were surprised how the book ended. I didn't expect the twist it took at the end, but I believe it's fairly easy to figure out who is behind all the 'accidents' happening at Glory.

The end of this book is very satisfying and you will put it down with tears in your eyes. Don't miss it!

I really enjoyed this story. Kay Hooper did a wonderful job of entertaining the reader with a mystery that keeps you on your toes from the beginning to the end. Amanda Daulton and her mother run away in the middle of the night to escape some kind of danger. Years later Amanda turns up as the long lost granddaughter of Jessie Daulton. Her mother has died and after discovering who she is, she wants to know what happened that fateful night. Of course, since she has turned up, the other heirs are not too happy at the prospect of being disinherited. One attempt on her life has occurred and there is the fear of more plus, Jessie's lawyer is not sure she is who she says she is, and keeps digging to find out more about her background, which has been extremely difficult because Amanda has not been as truthful as she could have been. Kept me on my toes till the end.

Others had walked into Walker's office claiming to be Amanda Daulton, the missing heiress to a multimillion-dollar home. This one would be no different. However, being the family lawyer, Walker had to follow Jesse's orders to bring her out to the house. When Jesse accepted her claim of being Amanda, without concrete proof, Walker began to investigate her past. Amanda's memories were just too vague. After all, she had been ten when she and her mother had run away into the dark night.

Amanda did not know why the smell of horses made her go sick with terror. When her mother died in a car accident, she found her birth certificate, and her real identity. Her mind would not let her remember what had happened those twenty years ago. Why had her mother grabbed her and ran, never to return to the Glory house? Why was Jesse so sure she was the real Amanda?

When Jesse tries to change his Will in Amanda's favor, she threatened the leave. After all, people have been killed for less. She wanted nothing of the estate. She only wanted to know WHY everything happened. Someone else, though, wanted Amanda dead.

***More romance than suspense until the end. The ending is shocking. I never saw it coming!***

This book was the first book by Kay Hooper that I read, and it has made me seek out her other books since. _Amanda_ is a griping book that pulls you in from the first page. It is full of romance and mystery, making the book more than a simple bodice-ripper. It gives you a mystery to solve, wonder at what will happen next, and the growth of love along with it all. If you enjoy any kind of romance, suspense, or mystery book I think you will like this book.

_Amanda_ was the second book I read by Kay Hooper. I had high expectations after reading _After Caroline_, and I wasn't disappointed. Until the last few chapters, I was never certain whether Amanda was indeed who she claimed to be or not. Ms. Hooper kept me guessing until the very end. I knew the book held a shocking secret, but nothing could have prepared me for the book's climax. _Amanda_ is a must read. Prepare for late nights.

This is a great book. I have never read Kay Hooper before, but I found her name in the- "If you like this author, then you'll like..." section of Amazon. Well, I certainly did like Kay Hooper. Not only did I find this story to have an interesting & imaginative plot, but I found Kay Hooper to have an excellent writing style as well. This book is hard to put down. It is not overly suspenseful, but yet there are enough subtle hints & clues along the way, to keep you interested. And it has quite an ending! I would recommend Kay Hooper to those who like a little suspense, with a little romance thrown in. I am looking forward to reading another of her books.

I really enjoy this author. She does an amazing job of telling a story. Im rivited and cannot put them down until i have read the whole book.

when Amanda goes to Glory to learn about her past, she hardly expects attempted murder, heart-stopping memories, and romance to pop up where she least expects it! i loved this book. one of hooper's best!
