5.0 out of 5 stars Let It Begin...., December 29, 2000

This review is from: Amanda Marshall ~ Tuesday's Child (Audio CD)
I stumbled across this cd quite by accident. There she was, this waiflike creature with wild hair. Looked intriguing, vaguely familiar, and I was compelled to buy it. I was floored. I had no idea Amanda Marshall was so talented (such a mighty voice!). I'd heard a song or two by her before, and then remembered I'll Believe In You from Touched By An Angel.

It's rare that I find an entire album to enjoy on continuous play. Every song on Tuesday's Child is a new twist on the theme of intense feeling in all its forms, whether it be the anguish of missed opportunity (Too Little, Too Late) a lover's indifference (Why Don't You Love Me?) or the gratitude of finding your other half (If I Didn't Have You). When she's ecstatic, I find myself happily singing along, and when she's dejected, the tears stream for her.

Amanda vividly articulates what (most) everyone has felt, rhyming in never faltering meter, and gives us this intricate gift, entwining her seductive voice around the music. Track 13, Out of Bounds, is particularly haunting, and one can almost feel the darkness swirling around the ankles, pulling, tugging. Find a deserted stretch of interstate, play this one at full force, with the top down, at about 110 or so.

"Standing on the edge of time, Playing out a reckless pantomime, And every day's another wrong to rectify.

I dream about a stranger's touch, And voices in my head I cannot hush, And every night's a hunger I can't satisfy...

It's the secret that I keep, It's the ache that makes me weep, And I know I'm in too deep, I'm gonna drown..."

5.0 out of 5 stars Ten on a Five Scale, July 18, 2005

This artist, & particularly this album, are the reasons I DON'T LISTEN TO THE RADIO anymore! This should have been the #1 album of 1999, & won the Grammy for Album of the Year, but no one in The States got to hear it!(Also the reason I pay no attention to the Grammys anymore)
This is one of the best albums EVER recorded - by ANYONE! Her voice is seductive yet powerful, with a growl like no one I've heard before. Her highlites are in all the right places, but her soulful delivery blows right past any air of formulaic pop to a hard-rock edge reminiscent of Sass Jordan or even an early Doro Pesch! Her poetry is intelligent & full of imagery, harkening back to the best of fellow-Canadian Joni Mitchell while rocking hard when the srory dictates. "The Best of Me" is as rockin' as anything you'll ever hear; "Too Little, Too Late" is one of those ballad-that-becomes-a-rocker masterpieces that every lame-oid on the radio wishes they could sing; "Give Up Giving In" should have been on every lite-rock station in America, & should have won a Grammy for Song of the Year! But the best song is the closer, "Out of Bounds", which is, in my opinion, THE BEST SONG IN THE HISTORY OF RECORDED MUSIC - BAR NONE!!!
On my personal list of Top 10 Albums of All Time, this is SECOND only to Airplane's "Crown of Creation". 'Nuff said!
