5.0 out of 5 stars Collaboration of 2 masters for a Great Brazilian Jazz CD, February 18, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Amanda (Audio CD)
This is a great collaboration of two master musicians for a remarkable Brazilian Jazz album; Eliane Elias and Randy Brecker (married at the time), with an album in dedication to their daughter Amanda.
This album is listed as Randy Brecker and Eliane Elias; even though to my personal opinion, it should've been Eliane Elias and Randy Brecker since Eliane's presence, performance and arrangements are more prominent than Randy's, but that was just a marketing strategy since Eliane was just being introduced to the North American audience. Anyway, that doesn't deminish the artistry here.
The track list (not shown here at Amazon's page):
1. Splash
2. Para Nada (For Nothing)
3. Pandamandium
4. Samba de Bamba
5. Amandamada
6. Guaruja

Two of these six tracks hit very hard around the time this recording came out in 1986 all the way to the early 90's in Jazz Radio Stations around the globe: "Splash" and "Amandamada" speak for themselves.
Another particular point about this recording is that this is the only time I've heard Eliane Elias jamming really batucada-jazz style (I have most all of her CDs and this is the only song I've noticed that particular); something you can only hear in people like Tania Maria on track number 4 "Samba de Bamba"; a very rhythmic and contagious song; check it out.
Finally I'd like to mention the people involved in this great recording:
- Eliane Elias / Piano, Vocals, Flute, Arrangements, Compositions, Keyboards of all kinds.
- Randy Brecker / Trumpet, Electric Trumpet, Arrangements.
- Michael Brecker / Tenor Saxophone
- Dave Weckle / Drums
- Danny Goetlib / Drums
- Manolo Badrena / Percussions
- Mark Egan / Bass
- Jeff Minorov / Guitars
- Sadao Watanabe / Alto Saxophone
- Cyro (I assume is Cyro Baptista) / Percussions
...and many more.

A true collectible and a hard to find jewell; imports now from Sweden and Japan only.
