Book Description

Waking up is the pits when you come to in a hospital with a broken arm, a colorful assortment of abrasions and contusions, and a face swathed in bandages. It’s even worse if you can’t remember what hit you.

The bad and the ugly are crime reporter Amanda “A.J.” Gregson’s business. But learning she had a ringside seat for an explosion that killed two agents of the Continental Intelligence and Investigative Service (CIIS), incinerated an entire block of warehouses, and did so much damage to her eyes they had to be surgically removed? Well, that gives the darker side of life a whole new meaning.

Haunted by elusive nightmares, A.J. waits for her transplant and struggles to remember the events leading up to the fateful night of September 4, 2075. Weeks crawl by without a glimmer, before memory floods back the night before surgery, every brutal detail crystal clear.

The explosion had been the work of the Ferrymen.

"The Ferrymen. My not-so-magnificent obsession for more than a year. Only a cataclysm could have made me forget. I guess you could call them hitmen. You could also call Einstein a math whiz. Think ruthless. Think unstoppable. Think killers so proficient 'caught the ferry' was fast replacing 'bought the farm' in common usage, and you have the Ferrymen in a nutshell."

The transplant surgery goes off without a hitch—welcome news, because A.J. is raring for a rematch with Hell's Boatmen. But contrary to popular belief, what you see isn't always what you get. Take her new eyes, for example. Those baby blues may look perfectly normal, but they possess a power that turns her world upside down—the power to see into the hidden dimensions of the human heart.

When the Sight unmasks the mastermind behind the Ferrymen, the unveiling is as stunning as it is unbelievable. The revelation sets her on course for a second head-collision with evil. Will she survive the final encounter?

Review

--if you like futuristic Sci-Fi, mystery thrillers with a little romance thrown in then this is one book you will not want to miss. "Amanda's Eyes" has all the earmarks of being a fantastic series. - Anita, The Kindle Book Review

From the Author

The beloved children's TV personality is revealed as a pedophile.  The brilliant investor turns out to be the bestselling author of the latest Ponzi scheme. How many times have we seen the prince turn into a frog?  Too many.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone could see the monster beneath before we fall in love with the mask? That question became the central idea for Amanda's Eyes.

I love to tell stories that explore human nature, and this one me a chance to explore our penchant for appearance over reality; the tension between law enforcement and media; what it takes to do the right thing when you know doing the right thing might cost you; and what happens when cynicism comes face to face with there are more things under heaven, Horatio.

Putting myself in A.J.'s shoes also forced me to reexamine some personal prejudices toward the press.  I suddenly appreciated the ethical tightrope conscientious reporters probably walk on a daily basis.  Began to understand why reporters might "intrude" on people still standing amidst the ruins of shattered lives.

I look forward to exploring all of the above (and more) in the next A.J. Gregson novel, working title, Mind Games.

5.0 out of 5 stars Action Packed From Beginning To End September 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This story takes place in the year 2075 yet most things aren't too different except for the futuristic gadgets and the miracle of modern medicine. Amanda Joy or A.J. Gregson is a crime reporter working on a big story about the elusive Ferryman- an international assassin of virtually untouchable targets. His calling card is an obituary in a small town newspaper.

When A.J. gets too close and passes on information to the CIIS (Continental Intelligence and Investigative Service) the Ferryman tries to take her out along with the two agents she is working with. A.J. survives the explosion but loses her eyes. Because it is 2075, medicine has improved to the point that new eyes are made for her that are virtually copies of the ones she lost except now she is able to `see' people as they really are-not how they present themselves to the world.

With this new gift she teams up with the reluctant CII agent Jack `Iceman' Eagan. When he realizes she will go after the Ferryman with or without his help he decides that she'll do it with him; that way she just might stay alive. What follows is an explosive, exciting, and entertaining, not to be missed read.

Kathy DiSanto does an excellent job of combining several genres to give readers a really good read. So if you like futuristic Sci-Fi, mystery thrillers with a little romance thrown in then this is one book you will not want to miss. "Amanda's Eyes" has all the earmarks of being a fantastic series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amanda's Eyes December 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This novel is absolutely amazing in terms of skillfully combining advances in technology, that is Science Fiction genre, with the human side of living in relatively near future. After all, the human touch, romance, suspense and psychological aspects of development are the things that make the narrative so convincing, readable, likeable, exciting and moving.
Moreover, when one reads the author's biography, one could simply not miss the fact that she is an exemplary mother, a truly family-oriented, socially responsible and pretty wise lady.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic read! May 17, 2013

Sometimes you get what you pay for and sometimes you get a great deal. This was the latter without a doubt. We all know you can get sucked in by the free book downloads and end up barely able to finish the product because it's just horrible. This, however, was a great find! I saw the free download link on the authors Pinterest page.

The story is extremely well written with none of the grammatical errors and poor editing usually found in free books. The authors humor and science fiction storytelling ability was evident within the first few pages. The characters I found to be multidimensional and engaging. It was definitely a page turner for me. The concepts and futuristic technology were fun and acceptable within the story. I had no problems escaping into the world the author created, enabling me to visualize as I read. That to me, is the benchmark for a well written tale. I'm looking forward to reading more from the author and more about A.J Gregson. This would have been a book worth paying for.

Loved the book, and the author made it sound so real - the transplantting of eyes that I had to ask a medical person if this was really possible. Great book.
