Book Description

From the author of the Amazon Bestselling Contemporary Romance, Preservation.

Knowledge changes everything...

Hoodoo-influenced Southern Louisiana seems like the perfect place for Camille to relocate and escape her abusive past. She didn't expect to fall in love and plummet herself into the world of Amaranth, a place of exile for reformed vampires.

Thanks to her deadly vampire ex-boyfriend, she's confronted with decisions that not only threaten her life but the lives of her inhuman friends that she has come to love. Entangled in her friends' quest for freedom, she dives into their realm and faces the threats of the ruler of Amaranth--the mother of all vampires--and her own inner demons.

Will she derail her life and make the ultimate sacrifice for the very monsters that interrupted her bumpy path back to sanity--the one she wanted so desperately in the first place? Or will she find a way to escape with her vampire love before it's too late?

EDITORIAL REVIEWS:

Diary of a Book Addict--

"Left me speechless! I loved this story from the minute I read it. It is about love and finding your inner self. I stayed up until 3am because I had to finish. This is a vampire lover's must read! You will not be disappointed!"

Undead Passion--

"I think I am in love. Characters will die, characters will love, family connections will be found out, and most importantly it will amaze you and leave you wanting more. An amazing journey...the characters were all well developed and I fell in love with just about all of them. It was like an emotional roller coaster. There were lots of laughs and lots of sadness. I loved the quirkyness of the characters and it was refreshing to have a leading lady like Camille."

The Copywriter's Desk--

"Solid character development. An emotional journey. By the end of the book, I was completely engrossed in each of the main characters."

3.0 out of 5 stars Meh. March 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I received a complimentary copy of this book in order to
review it. I probably won't bother to read the rest of the trilogy.

The first half of this book is a pretty blatant "Twilight" ripoff.
Instead of Bella, a high school student who attracts danger and loves classic literature, we have Camille, a college student who attracts danger and loves classic literature.

Instead of Edward, the good vampire, who leaves the heroine for her own good, we have Gavin, the good vampire, who leaves the heroine for her own good.

Instead of a sadistic vampire named James trying to kill the heroine, we have a sadistic vampire named Andrew trying to kill the heroine.

Instead of a rescue mission to Volterra and trouble from the Volturri, we have a rescue mission to Amaranth and trouble from Samira.

Both novels have vampires who become noticeable as "thirsty" when their eyes turn black.

Both novels are written in the first person from the perspective of our hapless heroine.

Some of the sentiments and exchanges between the main characters are almost word for word from the "Twilight" series. The author is obviously a big fan. I have to wonder if she even realized she was ripping it off because maybe she's simply read the books too many times. She even makes a couple of mentions of Robert Pattinson, wink wink. The heroine may not know about this series of books or movies, but the author clearly does, and has read/seen them enough that it is bleeding through into her own writing.

It's probably not TECHNICALLY enough for Stephanie Meyer to sue for copyright infringement, but I think she'd be pretty ticked if she read this novel.

I love a good vampire novel as much as the next person, but for Pete's sake, be original! Don't just add your own flourish to someone else's ideas to make them your own.

2.0 out of 5 stars Shallow July 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I think this book was fairly shallow in character development. The plot was basic and questions were answered on que without much thought. I do not think I will continue with the series, but perhaps if they go on sale. I would not spend $.99 on the following books.

5.0 out of 5 stars After reading the first 2 books... May 8, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I actually haven't read in quite some time, this was the first book in a while to pique my interest. To the person who says it is the same as Twilight- clearly you went into it thinking that. Honestly, what took Stephenie Meyer 4 books to portray (a love story), this author has done in ONE book. And although the first book does seem to have some similarities, the plot of the entire series is FAR different. I do feel that some parts of this first book are a bit cliche. But, after reading the second book of the trilogy, I have to disagree that this book is the exact same as Twilight entirely. The Characters are completely different, nothing as you've described them as. Books are much like music in the aspect that everything original has been done- there is bound to be some amount of repetitiveness throughout every book written these days. It takes a lot to get me interested in a book, and honestly, this book did it. It pulled me in and now I can't wait for the 3rd book of the series. I do feel the second book is better than the first, so if you like this book, read the next one. It's a good read and anyone comparing this book to The Twilight series needs to stop putting so much stock in Stephenie Meyer being the be all, end all of writers.

Girl meets guy. Girl talks to girlfriend about guy. Blah Blah. A little too boring for my tastes. Had to read it again to remember it.
