Product Description

Amarena cherries are the fruit of the Prunus cerasus tree which originated in Asia Minor and were brought to Italy by the Roman General Lucullus. He dined in succulent fashion and had cherry trees brought to him to plant in his garden. The sour cherry is a variety of cherry with a tart, refreshing flavor. A summer fruit which is picked in July, high in vitamins A, B1, and C.

These ones have a lighter taste, which is nice in certain cocktails.

Long-time Luxardo lovers, we tried these on a lark and find that while they are a bit less dense and complex, we prefer the Amarena Toschi cherries for drinks. They have a firmer texture and the slightly less intense taste makes them more compatible with a broader variety of cocktails. For people who really like the deep velvet Luxardo taste, these may not fit the bill. That said, they are recommended as a worthy alternative to the firmer, more watery American style maraschinos (to say nothing of the candy-sweet variety that reminds me of the Shirley Temples I got as a kid).

I had been looking for someplace to find these incredible cherries...I first had them in old fashions at some of the nicer "drinking establishments" ("BAR" just isn't right when talking of these jewels of delight) I had asked what they were and was told "Griottes"...however I didn't realize that there were so many different kinds of fancy cherries that it was hit or miss for a couple of months as I would try cherries that were good but just not quite the same....Imagine my delight to discover that I found them right here on AMAZON!!I wasted so much time not coming here first! I ordered both the Amarena Toschi Italian Cherries in Syrup (RED jar)as well as the Fabbri Amarena Cherries in syrup ( 2 of Fabbri Amarena Cherries in Syrup - 21oz. Decorated Jar )...They are both just so delicious it is hard to describe..they have a texture that has a slight chew...nothing at all like even "good" Maraschino cherries) I had ordered them because I love Old Fashions..and am picky about the ingredients..must be such and such a bourbon..and I fluctuate between several ..Basil Hayden-Knob Creek-Bullit are my top 3 right now :) Well..I soon discovered that these cherries are so irresistible that I found myself eating them by the spoonful...then putting on pound cake and ice cream....now I have discovered a less fattening way to enjoy these...I get the FAGE (Fa-hey) non fat yogurt..and pit a tablespoon or two on top..OMG..it is just amazing...I still splurge with the cake and ice cream ..and so far have avoided getting carried away by the other ways people have added these delicious jewels to enhance something!

I just had to go into my kitchen and have a small spoonful...too hard to write about these and not give in and have a taste!!:)

The jars containing the cherries are beautiful on their own and I'm sure I'm not the only one who saves them to use again!

I love these..can you tell!!!

Stumbled upon these delicious cherries in a local gourmet store...traveled elsewhere and could not find them...had to have them...you will as well...
UPDATE: Buy one jar of these, enjoy them, keep the exquisite jar and then order: Roland Amarena Cherries in Syrup, 6-Pounds 13-Ounce Can from Amazon and refill the jar from then on...You would have to own quite a tongue to taste the difference...your pocketbook will...

They're just cherries in syrup, right? Except these are awesome cherries in awesome syrup! Toss them in a screwdriver, tequila sunrise, whiskey sour or whatever and it'll kick them up like a maraschino cherry can't. Don't even compare these to maraschino cherries because these are far better than a poor translucent candy cherry could ever hope to taste.

Used sparingly to dial up sliced strawberries! Add a cherry or two to an updated Manhattan. Too sweet to eat alone.

Awesome cherries! Great in a Manhatten (drink), on ice cream, and various desserts or garnish! The best cherries you'll ever taste!

Absolutely the best cherries you will ever eat. Worth every single penny. Try them over vanilla ice cream or in a Black Forest Cake.

This is my first experience with imported cherries. I am fond of the BadaBing brand for the Old Fashioned cocktails I make at home, but I knew I was missing out whenever I'd order a drink at a restaurant that uses better quality cherries. So I decided to splurge on these. No regrets. Worth every penny. These are great for Manhattans and Old Fashioned cocktails. The syrup was thicker than I expected, and much thicker than brands made here in the States, but that's not a bad thing. I don't use the syrup in a cocktail, anyway. Just the cherry. I may not buy these again, but only because I want to try other imported varieties.
