Editorial Reviews

Product Description
The third and final album by the Edinburgh-based duo of David McNiven and Angie Rew was barely released in 1971, but has gone on to become one of the most treasured 'acid folk' albums of all time. Comprising the epic title track and four unforgettable stand-alone songs, Amaryllis features outstanding support from musicians including Danny Thompson and Terry Cox of Pentangle, and is an essential purchase for all fans of psychedelic singer-songwriting. --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars A total essential acid-folk masterpiece!!!, November 21, 2007
By Hawke and Dove "Hawke and Dove" (Scottsdale, Arizona United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Amaryllis (Audio CD)
Acid folk does not get any better than this. From the epic title track loaded with all of it's beauty and poetry to other beautiful gems like "Brother John". Delicate emotional vocals/lyrics from the Scotish duo of Angie Rew and David McNiven. Not to mention brilliant/beautiful fingerpicking guitars by both of them. Amaryllis and other tracks on this album take me away to a better time and a better place in my childhood. The "dated" organs are very good on this. Makes you realize this is the real deal and just how wonderful 1970/1971 was.

An essential purchase and I don't use the term masterpiece lightly here!!!

Buy it without reservation!!!

Also, their other 2 albums (first one from 1969 and the "Strange tale of captain Shannon and the Hunchback from Gigha") are essential purchases as well.

Easily one of the best groups in the late 60's/early 70's acid-folk era!!!
