From School Library Journal
Grade 6-9-This useful, well-organized resource for science projects features basic guidelines for field and lab studies, safety precautions, lists and sources of equipment, and easy-to-understand instructions. The experiments vary in complexity; each includes background information on the organism to be studied, a list of materials, procedural directions, and additional ideas to explore. Throughout each chapter, advice is given on establishing a hypothesis, recording observations, using graphs and drawings to summarize findings, drawing conclusions, and-most importantly-on humane treatment of the creatures. Text is clear; black-and-white photographs and simple diagrams illustrate how the investigations are set up. This is a sound addition, but Janice VanCleave's A+ Projects in Biology (John Wiley, 1993) offers even more challenging activities and encouragement to budding zoologists.
