The ultimate compendium for trivia nuts of all ages.

The Amazing 10,000 Quiz Challenge has enough questions (and answers) to keep the family guessing for days. The book can be used to test trivia buffs' powers of useless information retention or made into a quiz game for two or more players or teams.

The questions appeal to puzzlers of all ages with a very broad range of special interests. The quizzes encompass easy, medium and hard questions. To avoid too many unseemly debates among players, all the answers are found at the back of the book, together with supplementary information where appropriate.

The Amazing 10,000 Quiz Challenge contains a wide variety of types of quiz:

  • traditional quiz questions grouped according to broad subject areas
  • special "mastermind" subject areas
  • quizzes with multiple-choice answers
  • picture quizzes
  • name-the-year quizzes
  • true-or-false quizzes
  • famous quotation quizzes, and
  • for total egg-heads, cryptic quizzes.

The various types of quiz are interspersed with 20 double-page-spread feature quizzes with a seasonal or celebratory theme, such as Summer Quiz, Christmas Quiz, and so on.

The Amazing 10,000 Quiz Challenge is printed in color throughout and enlived by 100 color photographs, 75 specially commissioned cartoons and numerous pictorial icons to identify the subject area of the quizzes. This is a true feast of trivia fun for the entire family.

Introduction

Can you guess how many quiz questions there are in this book? Here's a clue -- the book is called the AMAZING 10,000 QUIZ CHALLENGE! Any nearer?

If you think that there may be a few hundred questions, or if you don't have any ideas, then perhaps this book is not for you! On the other hand, if you like lots of questions -- 10,000 of them -- and you enjoy a wide variety of quiz types, then this is most definitely the book of your dreams!

There are straightforward quizzes that each contain 20 questions, and all you have to do is answer them! These quizzes are arranged in broad subject areas, such as AT THE MOVIES, TELEVISION and GENERAL KNOWLEDGE. There's a colorful icon above each quiz to help you find your way around the book. In addition, there are some more specialized quizzes. So, for example, in a quiz headed SPORT you could come across a question about anything sporting, whereas some quizzes are about individual sports, such as TENNIS or personalities, such as DAVID BECKHAM.

Throughout the book there are feature quizzes linked to calendar dates and the seasons of the year. We up the question count to 50 for these double page specials.

We like to provide you with different types of quizzes, and you will find plenty of the following...

MULTI-CHOICE. You have to decide which of the three given answers is the correct one.

TRUE OR FALSE. Can you call our bluff and decide which statements are true and which are false?

NAME THE YEAR. Identify the year in question from some headliness of the time.

DOUBLE TAKE. A quiz for the two-faced, where two different questions lead to the same answer.

PICTURE QUIZZES. In each quiz we play some tricks with pics! There are famous faces to identify and some crafty connections to track down!

WHO SAID. . . ? Match the quotation to the speaker.

GUESS WHO... ? Identify the personalities from the few selected facts.

PLUS many QUICKFIRE QUIZZES where you can show your expert knowledge or total ignorance about subjects varying from capital cities to international sports stars.

The quizzes are NOT graded in levels of difficulty. The downright obscure will be found rubbing shoulders with questions that most of us will have no problems in answering. You may have sailed through questions 1 to 19, only to find that you get sunk on the final one. This book is packed with color and cartoons, highlighting the fact that quizzes are here to entertain you. The main thing about all quizzes is that they are meant to be fun! There is a certain satisfaction in the knowledge that you know more about Bolivian poets than anyone else in the room, but we strongly suggest that the winner-takes-all attitude is not the best one to have... and anyone who shows signs of Quiz Rage should have a break from answering questions for a while.

Whether you are a complete quiz novice or an expert, this collection of quizzes will provide you with hours of entertainment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun, January 17, 2007

This is a very generous and well presented collection of quizzes. It has given me many hours of fun. The book offers a nice variety -from general knowledge to special subjects, like dictators, scandals and disasters to picture quizzes to 50 question themed quizzes. There are some errors in the answer lists but, considering this book contains 10,000 questions and answers, not very many. I find trivia quizzes to be about not only knowledge (the more you know the better you do) but also thinking and memory. The questions I enjoy the most are the ones where I don't initially know the answer, but where the answer can be deduced through logical thinking. Another type that I really like are the ones where I have to search and massage my memory to get the correct answer. Yet another type of question that I enjoy are ones where I haven't a clue as to the correct answer, but that offer an intriguing bit of information. This book contains lots of all of the above. A quibble would be that there is perhaps too much attention paid to what I refer to as 'junk culture' -e.g. fluffy television shows, movies and performers, forgettable pop musicians, people famous for being famous, etc. For example, from the number of questions that have 'Kylie Minogue' as the answer, you might think she represented some kind of high-water mark of contemporary culture. All in all though, this is an entertaining book and well worth the money.

I think that there may be people that would like this book much more than I did. Biggest problem is that I expected more out of it. I did not research it enough and made a quick decistion.
