5.0 out of 5 stars Fun book about sharing January 23, 2012
Format:Hardcover
My three-year-old twin sons love this book. I love the casual tilt to the text, and the illustrations are very fun. The moral of the story is great too - sometimes it's fun to play alone, and sometimes it's fun to play with others. When we read it, the boys insist on a second and sometimes third consecutive reading. As for the critique about the content of Bumblebee Boy "fighting bad guys", my sons are exposed to very limited videos and TV, but they still engage in fantasy play about good and bad (people, animals, trains, etc.). I feel that the depictions of Sam pretending to contend with his "bad guy" toys is appropriate for pre-schoolers, who are naturally in the developmental stage of working through issues of good vs. bad.

My son received this book for Christmas at 2 1/2 years old. It is a fantastic book. He is starting to engage in fantasy play and loves that on every page there is an opportunity for the main character "Sam" to be a superhero and save the day. He is an only child, but the theme of playing together and sharing hits home as he plays with his friends. He also loves the repetition of Bumblebee Boy's call "Bum Ba Bum Bumm". The phrasing helps keep his attention as the writing alternates between the adventure that Bumblebee Boy imagines and the reality of his conversations with his little brother. We have Ladybug Girl as well and he is enthralled with it also. As much as we love Ladybug Girl, it is nice to have the same quality writing and moral lessons with a male character. This series will be in our home for years, as it is appropriate for the whole preschool age group.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ba Ba Ba Bum! June 5, 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
The Ladybug Girl/ Bumbleeboy series is awesome! My 2 1/2 year old son has fallen in love with these books but especially Bumblebee Boy. We purchased this book for our son since he just became a big brother 11 days ago and he chooses to read it pretty much every nap and night time. In this book Bumblebee Boy, Sam, wants to play by himself but his little brother, Owen, really wants to join in. This is a wonderful story or discovering just how fun a sibling can be.

We also purchased "Ladybug Girl and Bumbleboy Bee" for our daughter to celebrate her birth.
