This series of coloring books is fabulous if you want to make studying/learning fun for young children. Learning about your own state is a great way to start. Learning about a state you plan on visiting or moving to is also a very good idea. We plan to learn about them all! So far, we have studied about 20. Each time we order one of these coloring books. The kids enjoy coloring the pages as a visual of what we are reading about and discussing out loud. We then cut out the colored pictures and paste them on a posterboard. At the end of our study, about 2 weeks worth, we have a collage of that state. It is wonderful to make a presentation with to your homeschool group or even to grandparents. These coloring books have really helped the kids with paying attention to detail as they research the state flag, animal, tree....you get the idea, and then have to color the page to match. My children, age 9 and 11 now, still like doing these and have for a while. Younger children will really enjoy them. Add an Alaskan recipe to your day (bake/cook with your kids), make a totem pole, go fishing...The ideas can just keep coming as you find ways to study a state, but the fun and learning begins with this inexpensive little coloring book!
