Grade 2-4-While lively and exciting to look at, this glitzy title offers random facts rather than well-organized information. The table of contents lists individual animals, or aspects of species. The subsequent two-page chapters are filled with photos and illustrations that attempt to highlight the accompanying answers for questions such as "What are shells for?," "Are birds dangerous?," "Who lives in a box?," "What do sharks eat?," etc. The questions are generally broad in scope. However, the sum total of the text will leave children with only an introductory idea of the topics addressed. A brief glossary offers concise definitions for some of the more unusual terms found within the book. In an MTV world, this style of nonfiction may be the only way to capture readers' attention. Fun for browsing.
