My 7 year old granddaughter loves this puzzle book.

What a terrific idea for kids who -thanks to these crossword books- have a different kind of fun... without having their face glued to a computer screen all day!
Catherine S. Rosenberg
It is an excellent introduction to crossword puzzles for children.

I purchased this for my six year old son. He hasn't put it down since. It is an excellent introduction to crossword puzzles for children. He does need help at times with some of the clues, but most he can handle. I highly recommend this book.

I wasn't sure what kind of book this would be given the range of ages people said enjoyed this book, but being from a crossword loving family I bought it as an introduction to crosswords for my seven year old daughter who has a fairly high reading level. What I did not anticipate was the broad spectrum of knowledge and in particular pop culture you need to know in order to complete the puzzles. Clues included "Barbie's Ex-boyfriend," "Homer Simpson's Exclamation" and "______Lucy (old TV sitcom): Two words." "Ali", (as in Muhammed Ali), "Cairo," "ecology," and "String Quartet" were among answers in the first few puzzles.

One thing we love about this is exactly the broad spectrum of knowledge it covers because it is a great tool for learning, but I've found my daughter can't really do a complete puzzle on her own yet so either my husband or I have to sit with her to do it or closely check/correct the answers she does put in on her own. While we do enjoy this as a "working together" activity, I would recommend it for kids a bit closer to 10 if you are looking for something they can do more easily on their own.

These are real crosswords with nice, dense grids. My 10-year-old daughter loves this book and has asked for another in the series for xmas.

TRIP PAYNE HAS DONE IT AGAIN. HE CREATES SUCH FANTASTIC CROSSWORD PUZZLES FOR SMART KIDS, AND FOR ADULTS, I'M 65. SOME PEOPLE HAVE THE NACK FOR WORKING HARD CROSSWORD PUZZLES, BUT NOT ME. I HAVE PROBABLY ALL OF TRIP PAYNE'S PUZZLE BOOKS. THEY ARE OF EVERYDAY WORDS, THAT EVERYBODY KNOWS, AND GIVES YOU THE FUN OF WORKING CROSSWORD PUZZLES, AND KEEPS YOUR BRAIN ACTIVE. I RECOMMEND IT TO ALL AGES.

This book was a gift for my 8-year old granddaughter.
All the female members of the family are crossword addicts, so this book was by way of a "nudge" in that direction.
She loved the book and has asked for more.

These are too hard for the average 8 to 10 year old to do independently. I don't know WHY the author doesn't make more crossword puzzle books on a slightly easier level--not babyish but just not quite so hard!

Our 94 year old mother enjoys doing all these Payne crossword books with us. We really have to get on them to put 'Crosswords for Kids & Young at Heart' instead of just 'Kids' on their covers. She never had much to do with crosswords when she was younger so they are quite a bit of fun for her now. We find some of the other residents, in the memory care unit of her assisted living home, enjoy working them with us also.
