Editorial Reviews

“Scott Campbell really is some kind of genius.”

~ Mike Mignola, creator of Hellboy

“The best thing about Scott’s work is that it’s so damn cute, clever, and funny! It’s the perfect combination of whimsy and weird that make these adorable little scenes play out with such witty and awkward social commentary.”

~ Tara McPherson, artist

“I tried to pull together the essence of Scott C. once, to make a perfume called ‘Essence of Scott C.’ I mixed together extreme pleasantness, enthusiasm for beverages and other things, and a dash of somber, far-away looks. It smelled terrible. Amazing Everything does it much better.”

~ Tim Schafer, president of Double Fine Productions

“Amazing Everything should be put into a time capsule and shot into outer space for Martians to discover and understand American pop culture. Scott Campbell is our ambassador to geeky awesomeness.”

~ Sanjay Patel, artist and supervising animator at Pixar Animation Studios

"I think Scott C is some sort of magical time traveler. He is seemingly able to instantly revisit those childhood days of effortlessly filling up sheets of paper with endless armies of little characters living out their little lives in their little worlds. To know Scott C's work is to know Scott C -- each carefree brushstroke is infused with joy, optimism, and the spirit of having a good time with your pals."

~ John Martz, DRAWN!

“Art for me is about how it makes you feel. And Scott C's art just makes me friggin happy. Like, hurt your cheeks from smiling happy. AMAZING EVERYTHING is a big ol' book of pure, unfettered, goddamn merriment.”

~ Scott Mosier, SModcast, Clerks, etc.

"Scott C. makes art so pleasant and engaging that you feel right at home in the scenes he creates, and you're really happy to be there too. He can paint these entire worlds he's put together in his mind, they're amazing and vibrant and full of life. For some people, building worlds in their head can seem like an insular exercise, but Scott may as well paint a great big welcome mat inviting you in."

~ Kate Beaton, Hark! A Vagrant

Collected within the pages are beautiful watercolour illustrations of all things cute and funny. You'll see references to pop culture, like the cult tree with iconic movie characters. Some are single panel of cuteness, like flying cavemen, stacked up sandwiched tanks. His larger pieces of work are more elaborate, like the home slices with silhouettes of objects, such as a tank, with a network of tunnels with amusing characters living inside.

I like his use of watercolours that gives his work a very textured look. The colours are pastel, sometimes going to the earthly tones.

The book's 128 pages, hardcover.

This is an imaginative and amusing book. Recommended to those who like cute stuff and pop culture.

I have been a long time fan of Scott C's work but I bought this book for my 5 year old daughter. I wanted to inspire her to think outside the box when she draws. Yes, she's 5, but I wanted her to know that it's perfectly normal to draw plants coming out of people's heads, or umbrellas, or igloos... or anything. She could draw houses that don't look like houses. She could draw rainbows and happy faces on everything. She could draw whatever she wanted to draw, and not just what she thinks of as normal. Or rather, I wanted normal to include a world like Scott C's.

Not only was the art wonderful, the text was brilliant. She loved hearing about Scott's childhood and seeing some of what he drew when he was little. She loved all of it, especially the big pictures filled with a million details. Oh, and the Cute Hunter.

I highly recommend this book for anyone that wants their kids (or themselves) to think a little differently.

Although this book wouldn't be called a typical comic or even graphic novel, it is a great collection of illustrations of Scott Campbell, who in my opinion is a talented watercolor illustrator (which is one of the most difficult mediums to master). This collection pulls together a variety of artwork and illustrations that Scott C has produced over the last few years in one collection for viewers to enjoy. And also lets be honest, how can you not pick up a book where the forward was written by Jack Black (yes that Jack Black of movie fame and the voice of Kung Fu Panda.)

Scott C. has a whimsical style to his artwork that is influenced by everything from pop culture to lumberjacks to music to everything in between. For example one of his pieces is entitled "Sushi off a Friend" which depicts the A-Team eating sushi off of "The Great American Hero." Seriously how can cool is it to see Mr. T using chopsticks to eat a hamburger (you didn't really think he'd be eating sushi did you)? It's a whimsical type of illustration, but captures the characters perfectly so that you instantly know that who you're looking at without any names to the characters. Or how about the illustration of Voltron where the green lion has detached itself to get a bite to eat out of a giant cat bowl. No it didn't really happen in the show, but it's that instant flash of recognition and the inescapable chortle of laughter as you recognize what's going on. And this particular illustration is sold by the small smile creeping across the lion's faces as they watch the green lion eat. This is the type of illustration that Scott C personifies.

There are two things you need to know about this book: 1: most (all?) of the images in the book can be found online HOWEVER (and this is point 2) 2: it is SO SATISFYING to have said images in print form. So satisfying in fact that this book is a no-brainer 5-star knockout for any fan of Scott C or whimsical fantastic brain-tickling eye-candy Art in general.

Part of the reason this book is so great is the layout: not all Art books seem to have the end user (the readers) most pleasurable experience in mind - but this one aces it: nice big pages - great reproductions -which is really important in Scotts case because of all the minute magic going on in his lines and work - and a personal favorite: no paper dust-cover over the hardcover - those things always seem to prohibit overall book enjoyment (and yes you can take them off but then what do you do with them..?) ..Instead we get a gorgeous multi-textured cover .. the whole book shouts "ENJOY ME"

..which brings us to the last point: if you've never seen Scotts work outside of the good ol' 'Net get ready for a Big treat: Detail. the difference between seeing (relatively small) reproductions of these amazing watercolors on a computer monitor as opposed to large and on paper is that you can actually SEE all of what's going on and there's whole other levels of vibration i was missing viewing the works online.

Conclusion: if you dig Scotts paintings this is the closest you'll come to having a fantastic collection of a Bunch of his works. For this price don't even hesitate: GET IT.
