"Sometimes," Gracie said, "I just want to forget about the things I have to do, the things I see, but...I can't."

Max wanted to make her feel better.  Wanted to offer comfort, sympathy, but he didn't know how.  Forgetting, though--he was good at that.  His gaze dropped to her mouth, to her tempting lips, trembling in invitation.  "If forgetting is what you're after," he said, lowering his voice, "I think I can help you out."

Her gaze widened, linked with his.  A pulse beat at the hollow of her throat where her khaki shirt was unbuttoned.  "How?"  It came out a whisper.

Smiling, he watched her moisten her lips as her breath came faster.  He cupped her chin, slid his hand down the smooth skin of her neck and up again.  A kiss or two, nothing more, he thought.  He tilted her head back and bent his own to taste her.  Sweet.  Salty.  Sexy.  His tongue traced the seam of her lips until they parted.  She accepted his tongue, drawing it in and meeting it with darting thrusts of her own.

Indulging them both, he put his arms around her, pulled her closer, and took the kiss another level deeper.
