Book Description

December 29, 2009
When Gracie MacDougal returns to Seagull Point, Virginia, seeking to reform her workaholic ways, she discovers more than relaxation. The picturesque town calls to her, as does the waterfront Victorian house she envisions as the perfect bed-and-breakfast. But one person stands between Gracie and her new goal…and he isn’t budging. Southern charmer Kevin Daniels isn’t interested in selling Gracie’s dream house, but he’s definitely interested in something else…her. Enticing the uptight businesswoman into letting down her hair becomes his new mission in life, but beyond that? He already has way too many people depending on him, and has no intention of adding one more. Gracie’s not looking for a home. Kevin’s not looking for a wife. But sometimes even the best intentions can wind up going wonderfully awry. “AMAZING GRACIE is one of those wonderful books whose characters, setting and plot combine to produce a 24-karat-gold reading experience.” – RT Book Reviews

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

In Amazing Gracie, Hotelier Gracie MacDougal leaves her high stress life far behind when she moves to Seagull Point, Virginia for the summer. Hold up in a picturesque cottage, Gracie learns to appreciate the slow pace of Seagull Point. But her "on the go" attitude comes calling one day, and Gracie can't ignore it. The perfect project presents itself in the form of an old Victorian home. Gracie is sure that with a little TLC the home would make a lovely B&B, but the owner of the home, attorney Kevin Patrick Daniels, isn't so sure. Kevin won't budge, and Gracie won't let up. When tempers flare, so does the passion, and Gracie and Kevin find there's much more than just a house at stake. Will the two gamble on love despite their fears? Find out in this wonderful contemporary that critics call "a 24-karat-gold reading experience." --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From the Publisher

When a southern scoundrel meets a hard-as-nails businesswoman, he finds that nothing's as much fun as...

Gracie MacDougal has given up on romance. Three of her last four boyfriends proposed marriage--to other women. But through it all, she has excelled at one thing--her demanding job as a luxury hotel executive...until she loses that as well.

Kevin Patrick Daniels is no good at work. True, he's a lawyer, but he does his best thinking in a hammock, not a court of law.

Now, Kevin stands squarely between Gracie and the dilapidated old Victorian house she wants to transform into a gracious bed and breakfast. Gracie's not afraid of a little hard work. Kevin's not afraid of a challenge. And they're both about to discover that business is a whole lot more fascinating when it's mixed with the pleasure of love in Amazing Gracie from Sherryl Woods. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

More About the Author

With her roots firmly planted in the South, Sherryl Woods has written many of her more than 100 books in that distinctive setting, whether her home state of Virginia, her adopted state, Florida, or her much-adored South Carolina. She's also especially partial to small towns wherever they may be. In Amazing Gracie, as in her later Trinity Harbor series, Woods creates a fictional version of the town where she spends summers on the shores of the Potomac River. "This town just lends itself to fascinating characters and a charming locale," she says.

A member of Novelists Inc., Sisters in Crime and Romance Writers of America, Sherryl divides her time between her childhood summer home overlooking the Potomac River in Colonial Beach, Virginia, and her oceanfront home with its lighthouse view, in Key Biscayne, Florida. "Wherever I am, if there's no water in sight, I get a little antsy," she says.

Sherryl also loves hearing from readers. You can join her at her blog, www.justbetweenfriendsblog.com, visit her Web site at www.sherrylwoods.com or contact her directly at Sherryl703@gmail.com.

3.0 out of 5 stars Chemistry and cliches abound, March 21, 2007
By
This review is from: Amazing Gracie (Paperback)
After a disagreement with her boss over how the luxury hotel should be managed, Gracie impulsively returns to the US to relax in Seagull Point Virginia. Being a high strung career gal, she soon looks for a project to keep her busy and falls in love with a Victorian mansion she wants to turn into a B&B. But first she has to get by the caretaker, Kevin, who would rather lie in a hammock then listen to her proposal. But opposites attract and Gracie is willing to do anything to get her hands (and hammer) on the property.

Despite the two having a lot of chemistry between the leads (if you can get beyond the constant uttering his ENTIRE name), the story is so laden with clichés and relatives that have massive growth spurts (his niece ages overnight), that it never quite makes it a compelling read. I tend to love everything penned by Sherryl Woods, but this out of print story is poorly edited and just not worth the effort to locate.

1.0 out of 5 stars Did anyone edit this book??, May 15, 2001
This review is from: Amazing Gracie (Paperback)
I stumbled upon this at the library, and after reading it, I could see why it's out of print. The story engaged me enough for awhile, but then it was as if the author put it down, and returned to it YEARS later. Throughout 2/3 of the book, Kevin's niece was a ten year-old child. Then, out of nowhere, Woods writes "the teen ran after Gracie" referring to the same niece! And, at first I thought it was just a typo...but, alas, the "teen" took on an entirely different (consciously adolescent) way of speaking. Did Woods forget a character she created?? That is ridiculous! And, it completely broke the sense of 'escapism' for me. Here I'd grown to semi-care about a little child, and now she'd turned into a sixteen year-old in the same summer?! Beyond that, where was the EDITOR when all this was going on?? Absolutely absurd. Also, Woods builds good ... tension between Gracie and Kevin for about the first 2/3 of the book, and then it just fizzles into a very anticlimactic, forced situation where the heroine doesn't even say "I love you" ONCE to him, even at the very end of the book. What? This was another reason why it seemed as though Woods had gone back to this story, very half-heartedly, and did a slap-dash finishing job. And, forgive me if this is tacky, but I'd hoped there would at least be some steamy [scenes] to move the story along a little, but again I was disappointed. Oh well. Obviously I don't recommend you read this one. ....
