Chemistry and cliches abound,
By
This review is from: Amazing Gracie (Paperback)
After a disagreement with her boss over how the luxury hotel should be managed, Gracie impulsively returns to the US to relax in Seagull Point Virginia. Being a high strung career gal, she soon looks for a project to keep her busy and falls in love with a Victorian mansion she wants to turn into a B&B. But first she has to get by the caretaker, Kevin, who would rather lie in a hammock then listen to her proposal. But opposites attract and Gracie is willing to do anything to get her hands (and hammer) on the property.
Despite the two having a lot of chemistry between the leads (if you can get beyond the constant uttering his ENTIRE name), the story is so laden with clichés and relatives that have massive growth spurts (his niece ages overnight), that it never quite makes it a compelling read. I tend to love everything penned by Sherryl Woods, but this out of print story is poorly edited and just not worth the effort to locate.

Did anyone edit this book??,
This review is from: Amazing Gracie (Paperback)
I stumbled upon this at the library, and after reading it, I could see why it's out of print. The story engaged me enough for awhile, but then it was as if the author put it down, and returned to it YEARS later. Throughout 2/3 of the book, Kevin's niece was a ten year-old child. Then, out of nowhere, Woods writes "the teen ran after Gracie" referring to the same niece! And, at first I thought it was just a typo...but, alas, the "teen" took on an entirely different (consciously adolescent) way of speaking. Did Woods forget a character she created?? That is ridiculous! And, it completely broke the sense of 'escapism' for me. Here I'd grown to semi-care about a little child, and now she'd turned into a sixteen year-old in the same summer?! Beyond that, where was the EDITOR when all this was going on?? Absolutely absurd. Also, Woods builds good ... tension between Gracie and Kevin for about the first 2/3 of the book, and then it just fizzles into a very anticlimactic, forced situation where the heroine doesn't even say "I love you" ONCE to him, even at the very end of the book. What? This was another reason why it seemed as though Woods had gone back to this story, very half-heartedly, and did a slap-dash finishing job. And, forgive me if this is tacky, but I'd hoped there would at least be some steamy [scenes] to move the story along a little, but again I was disappointed. Oh well. Obviously I don't recommend you read this one. ....

Woods is so creative with her novels and how see has placed her characters in actual locations along the eastern shores.

I am not usually a fan of girlie romance types of books, but sometimes the right book lands in your lap and you are really glad that you read it.
Gracie McDougall is looking for something and it's definite not running a small luxury hotel in France, though she loves her job, she is looking for something that is missing and her mind keeps wandering to the small town of Seagull Point, Virginia. This town holds old memories for her, but she doesn't know if it's enough to keep her there until she stumbles upon a rundown Victorian that is just calling for her to turn into a Bed and Breakfast. That is if the difficult property manager would just listen to her plans. Kevin Daniels has no desire to let some upstart come into his town and try and turn his family home into one of those dreadful tourist traps. He has no desire to listen to her plans and definitely does not want his aunt anywhere near this beautiful charming woman. Well, as all romances lead in the same direction, there is certainly an attraction between the two and who knows what can happen with you mix business with pleasure. Sherryl Woods weaves a very entertaining story, mixing enough of the main plot with just the right amount of subplot to keep the reader involved in all the storylines. It is disappointing that this book wasn't the beginning of a series, I really think that Ms Woods was on to something really good. Maybe someday, but for now, this stand alone will remain one of my favorites books this year.

What a sweet, funny romance! Gracie quits her hotel management job in France and goes to only place that holds a fond memory - small resort town in Virginia. Once there is falls for an old Victorian house that thinks would make a wonder B&B. The only stumbling block is the man (Kevin) who `kind-a' owns the property - and he doesn't want to sell. Kevin and Gracie have great chemistry and the book makes you smile from beginning to end - you can't beat that! Enjoy!

I agree this is one of Woods best. Gracie is a character I would love to be, and I fell right in love with this book. Feeling as if she isn't appreciated by her new boss,Max, she quits her job working for the international hotel chain. The only problem is where will she go?She has no family, and has never really called anywhere home. She vacationed once when she was young to Seagull Point, Virginia. She has fond memories of it there,so that is where she ends up.
What will she do now that she is there? Gracie has never been one to stop and smell the roses so to speak. On one of her walks, she discover an old abandoned Victorian house that would be perfect for a bed and breakfast -- However her real estate agent tells her the owner doesn't want to sell. Enter Kevin Daniels, and we have sparks ladies and gentlemen. I won't say anymore nut this book had me from beginning to end --Don' miss out!

I am so disgusted by the amount of typos an grammatical errors in this book, I cannot even finish it. If the publishers don't take the time to read the book carefully, why should I?

Delightful. The setting reminds me of a small, rural town along the Potomac River in Virginia, one I visit frequently. More importantly, the character development and story line are super. This is a story for now--professional men and women seeking alternatives and purpose beyond their ongoing professional pursuits. Ms. Woods uses her words judiciously; it is a fast read that is captivating.
