(this is not Mike, but his wife haha)-- I read this book when I was pregnant with my last child, in 1986. Never has a book SO prepared and excited me about the birth of my child!!! Well, perhaps saying PREPARED isn't the right word---it definitely excited me and make me long for his delivery so I could apply some of what this book showed--that newborns ARE much more capable of 'doing things' than we ever imagined! ALL of the images in the book were of babies 6 weeks or younger... and my favorite part of the book? It told of an automatic reflex (similiar tothe Moro reflex) in which you can place your thumbs in the baby's palms--squeeze--and they'll open their mouth! My daughters were 7and 5 when my son was born--and BOY! what a time they had with that little tidbit of info!! They say "Look, Andrew is so smart, he already does what we tell him to do"-- then they'd press his palms and VIOLA! He did it haha Since then-- I've done that little 'trick' with every newborn I've held--and it works every time!! (it wears off as they reach the 6 week mark) ANYWAY-- with the pending adoption of my first grandchild, I'm off to order the new edition of this book! Sure wish I had KEPT my original-- I loaned it & never got it back!
