I wasn't sure what to think when I purchased this book for my 8-year-old daughter. We homeschool and she already uses a formal geography textbook...besides, pop-up books are for babies, right? NOT this one! The pages are jammed packed with fun facts, mesmerizing illustrations and many, many little pop-ups that relate interesting facts in a fun, entertaining way. This is truly a kid-friendly book with an earthquake that actually "shakes", a volcano that 'explodes" mid-page, and a hurricane that spirals and whirls around! I especially like the 2-page layout of the world (titled "Countries") where you can find a famous pop-up landmark on the spot of several famous capital cities. This is a cool book that will keep your kids entertained for hours. I use it when I need a break bt feel guilty taking one! My kids don't even miss me. For earlier grades it can stand alone, for mid to upper grades it is a fantastic supplement. I would also suggest the Geography Songs Kit from Audio Memory, Inc. as a companion learning component to this book. Thanks to these resources, and a good atlas and globe, geography is my daughter's favorite subject!5 Stars (easily). Enjoy -- and don't be afraid to admit that you actually did!!!

Geography Made Fun,
This review is from: The Amazing Pop-Up Geography Book (Amazing Pop-Ups) (Hardcover)
Do you know what the deepest lake in the world is or where it's located? How about biggest island or the highest volcano? Do you know which country has the most people or where the Taj Mahal is located? It's easy to find out the answers to these questions and much, much more in The Amazing Pop-Up Geography Book. Kate Petty and Jennie Maizels have taken a subject considered dull and made it FUN! They've collected hundreds of interesting facts about our planet and the people that live here and put them in a hands-on book that's perfect for kids 8-12. From our place in the solar system to the continents and countries, from rivers, oceans, mountains and volcanoes, to hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes and understanding time and distance, kids can lift flaps, turn wheels, pull tabs and watch the earth come alive in their hands. This is a wonderful three dimensional book that will keep your youngsters entertained and learning for hours at a time as they find out that our planet is a pretty interesting place.

Never seen such a lovely and informative book for kids about geography. As a new teacher I'm always interested in new and extraordinary books, workbooks and other kinds of materials. This book gives young & small kids geographical backgroundinformations which they'll never forget anymore.

My 3 year old loves it!,

This review is from: The Amazing Pop-Up Geography Book (Amazing Pop-Ups) (Hardcover)
OK, I know it was a little premature buying him the book at 1 year old (I couldn't resist it). I hid it away until he was old enough not to want to rip the pieces out of it. He found it at 2, and has been reading it ever since. The other day he opened the book and told me that he was going to read to me this time. He proceeded to name all the planets, (and a week later did it backwards). He can name the tallest mountain, the longest river. And has a lot of fun simulating an earthquake and a tornado. Not bad for a 3 year old! A great book. I'm online because I'm ordering the rest of the series.

Pop Geography for the pop-up set,

Kids love pop up books, but outgrow most of them pretty early- often about the time that they get good at not tearing the pop up tabs! This is a fun book w/ plenty of interesting little geography facts for slightly older kids (say, up to 2nd grade; maybe 3rd if they are not strong readers). American kids (at least those who aren't in Montessori programs) don't get much geography, and this is a fun way to broaden their horizons a bit. Our 6 y.o. thoroughly enjoyed reading through it on her own, quizzing us from time to time. Be prepared!

This book is very well done. It has *tons* of stuff to do. There are so many lift up tabs and pop ups that it will keep anyone busy for hours. The content is interesting enough for kids and adults. Highly recommend this book.

Great learning center,

I am an elementary school teacher, currently teaching 4th grade. I ordered this book as a review of the various geographic elements in review for the NYS Science and SS assessments. Although this is not a book you can read together as a class (there are just too many small details to cover) I highly recommend this for a small group or independent work station. In order to fully utilize the book, I created questions that covered the various topics on each page which guided the students to explore the book and search for the answers. It is a fabulous learning tool and all of the other teachers who have seen this book keep asking me where I got it!!!!

A Big Hit!,
This review is from: The Amazing Pop-Up Geography Book (Amazing Pop-Ups) (Hardcover)
My newphew enjoys books, but this one was a homerun. My sister tells me that he is completely fascinated with this one. He is 5, but there is so much information in the book, I could see older kids enjoying it as well.
