From the Author

I'm always a little suspicious of anything that gets touted as a 'super-food'. I also try to eat locally grown foods. Which is why it took me a while to get around to trying quinoa. But a few months ago I decided to give it a try. Now all I can say is that I'm in love with quinoa and so glad I discovered this delicious food!

This is a good little starter cookbook if you are just beginning to use quinoa. Some good basic information about the grain, and a number of good, simple recipes. Lots of salads, some soups, a number of breakfast dishes. No pictures, but all in all a good little basic book.

This was another excellent book from Vesela's Healthy Cookbook series. This particular title shows you numerous ways you can use quinoa in salads, soups, stews, breakfasts and desserts.

Vesela starts off with a detailed overview of quinoa, what it is, and its health benefits. The book then gets onto to the recipes, which are described simply. This book is very well written and well worth reading. I'm particularly going to try out the recipes for the cookies and muffins.

This is a poorly written book.
There is no index to look up recipes, only a table of contents which, of course, lists recipes page by page in the order they are printed in the book.
In other words, you have to read the entire table of contents to possibly locate the recipe of your choice.
Also each recipe should be on one page and not continued onto another page.

Quinoa is always to be cooked before use, even in salads. Some of the recipes neglect to mention this.

I am disappointed in this book

I was hoping for more than sides. The closest recipe to an entrée dish was stuffed peppers. I was surprised at cookies, though.

Perhaps I'll put something to use yet, but I saw nothing that excited me in a culinary fashion.

So excited and looking forward to trying out all the recipes in this book! Tasted quinoa for the first time on my recent trip to Bolivia, absolutely loved it, and thought it would be really good to be able to cook with it at home. Now I have this little treasure of a cookery book to help me: so many yummy ideas, so easy to make.

I bought this book because I couldn't help myself at Costco and bought a large bag of quinoa after hearing from friends what a great grain this is. This book seemed like a good starter. The book is a collection of recipes that are quinoa-centric but I didn't find too many of them exciting. It does help you understand about quinoa and how to prepare it. It is strictly vegetarian but I have found quinoa to be very versatile when paired with vegetables or meat. If you want to know a lot about quinoa before you start using it, this is a good primer.

While this book is a good starter book on Quinoa, I was left wanting more. The book starts out giving information about quinoa, and then gets into the recipes. While the recipes here are good, most of them are for salads, I was left wanting a few more entrees. There are no photos for those that like that. Serving counts are given, but there are no prep times, and no nutritional info for each recipe. The formatting is good, with a table of contents with links to each recipe for easy navigation, and there is a page break after each recipe so that they don't run together.
