Great Game, a Few Small Suggestions,
By
This review is from: The Amazing Race DVD Board Game (Toy)
I gave it a 5, because this game includes great footage, and music from the show, even Phil (host) lends his voice to the game. This game requires you to think quickly and becomes very intense when other teams are catching up to you. Like others have said, it is a great game (and show), but there are a few small annoyances with the game. Final Leg questions need to be different for everyone. More show footage, and countries traveled (No more room on DVD?). Fewer explanations of the challenges (every time). I have emailed Pressman Toys with my suggestions and hope that they include them in any future editions. This game is as close as you can get, without ever being picked for the show (stated below). I played it 3 times (extended legs) the evening that I got it.

If I can't be chosen to be on The Amazing Race, this is as close as I can come...,

Hearing the AR theme music and Phil's voice, just like on the show, was a thrill, and the game does a very good job of evoking or sticking to the original rules and game. Being a rabid fan of AR and having seen virtually every single episode of every race, I loved the references to past races and tasks chosen, but familiarity with past races isn't necessary. If you've ever wanted to be on AR, this game will let you fantasize for a while that you are running it! The footage from far-away places is as gorgeous as it is on the show.As another reviewer commented, the only lame aspect is the final leg of the race, where the questions are the same for everyone. I really don't see why there couldn't be 2-4 sets of questions for the final leg... But we worked around this by requiring the other teams to not watch the screen when one team is going into the final leg, and reminding that team not to say anything out loud about the questions or answers. Great game for a fun evening with friends, especially if they're AR fans too!

Great fun for Amazing Race fans,
This review is from: The Amazing Race DVD Board Game (Toy)
This is a very fun game to play. Like other reviewers have said, when you first hear Phil's voice and the AR music, you do get a little tingle, especially those of us that have always wanted to be on the show. I think the game is more fun with many people playing. Two small issues: First, I echo the issues with the final leg. There should be more questions. Second, has anyone else noticed a pattern with the Head Start? I've noticed that if you select a two team game with the red team being the first team chosen, you'll get Dallas as the city every time. This was so much an issue that I actually returned the game because I thought it was defective. Then with my second copy, I figured out that there was a pattern. I do hope that future versions of the game come out. I'll happily buy again.

Not too bad,

I found it very entertaining, and not hard to learn at all. I was entertained, and it went rather quickly. My only gripe is at the end, when your answering questions to race to the finish line, basically once one person gets a question right everyone else can just choose the same answer, like looking over someones shoulder. Maybe they should all get different questions or something, to make it a bit more fair.

Our whole family (even members who have never seen the TV show) has really enjoyed playing this game (out of 4 DVD games given at Christmas, this is the only one that has been repeatedly played). As has been frequently cited in the posted reviews, the final leg format diminishes some of the fun at the end of the game (why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars). My suggestion for the creators would be to have the team select their multiple choice answer much like the answer is selected for the "Team Think" where the selection isn't visible on the TV screen. Using the remote control's up, down, left, or right arrows would continue to allow the 4 multiple choice options. To the engineers, designers and creators of the game: this DVD seemlessly flows between options and keeps track of each team's location within the game amazingly well while injecting the energy, scenes from past shows, and great int'l locations which make AR so entertaining. Great game!

Very good two minor annoyances,

I have loved this show since its premiere and am happy that it has survived and flourished so long. I was very excited when I stumbled across this game at KB Toys.It did not disappoint. It was so much fun! I liked the clips from previous seasons and that fact that Phil, the host of the televised Race, is also the host of the game. Nice touch. Two minor gripes-the first is the format of the last leg of the race which has been commented upon by other posters. We tried the look away technique which resulted in mayheem as some of the teens playing with us unabashedly peaked/cheated when other teams were answering the multiple choice questions(this actually added to the fun!) The other gripe is the lack of variety in locations. We played the game three times. Two locales(India and Egypt) were repeated twice over the course of the three outings of the game. Other than these minor annoyances, the game is time and money well spent.

I Figured a DVD format would have to be limited and except for the joint "last leg" complaints I thought the game was alot of fun. Worked best in our normal group of 4 couples and keeping people from cheating was half the fun. We had a blast playing and being an after Christmas bargain at 12 bucks, I thought it was a steal.

This is a great game for the whole family. We play quite a bit and have had the game for a couple of years. I keep looking for a new disc and if anyone connected with the game can read this - NEED MORE!I have to say that just when we thing we have seen everything we get a whole new set of questions. About the ending. We do the last leg 2 ways: Either we just leave the room and take breaks for each other or we blind our eyes (like when you were 5). Also we have a portable dvd player and when we played on vacation we just turned the portable to the person answering.

we are big amazing race fans, thought this would be a blast to play with my family. it's ok, but lacks variety in the "challenges" presented and wasn't as interactive as I had hoped.

Problems (on some DVD players),
By jazzfan (Utah, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Amazing Race DVD Board Game (Toy)
This game kept crashing and the same questions came up time and again, it never changed. We tried to play two games, but the DVD came up with an error after the 1st leg everytime. Did someone else have this problem, or what is just us?---We finally managed to get this to work. It's a fun game but like many DVDs now, it won't work on all players. It won't work well at all on our portable player, but on our little Philips player it worked great. I think they need to maintain some standards with DVDs, imagine the uproar in the past if a given VHS tape wouldn't play in all VCRs! If you can get the game to work and you like TAR on tv, you'll really enjoy the game. |
