Good Reference Tool, June 6, 2010
This review is from: Amazing Spider-Man 500 Covers HC (Hardcover)
The reproduction of the covers are scans of the actual comics, a la "Ernie Gerber Photo Journal Guide to Comics" on a black background, some of them, specially the scarcer issues, show minor defects on the edges and the gloss seems to have been worn off in many issues.
The chapters of the book are presented by years since 1963, in one page somebody gives a one paragraph synopsis of the events that occur in that year of Publication of the Amazing Spider-Man title and then a one paragraph synopsis of the events ocurring in the US and rest of the world.
Some covers take a full page and others 4 per page, under each cover the title of the stories is printed and if you're not sure who the penciler or inker is you go to page 312 where all of the credits are listed.
Only 15 out of the 41 Ditko covers are presented full page. While I agree on a good share of the selection of covers to be presented full page many great covers had to be left in the 4 per page format to keep the size of the book viable.
The book presents covers and Variant covers for the 441 issues of "The Amazing Spiderman" Vol. 1,a "Minus 1 Flashback" issue, 58 issues of Vol. 2, a Super Special #1 and 33 Annuals.

Historical value, March 17, 2011
This review is from: Amazing Spider-Man 500 Covers HC (Hardcover)
To be quite blunt, spider-man's comic covers were never stellar as far as the art goes. There's no fine art here, it's just colourful, energetic, pure fun.
As you can see below, only 170 out of more than 500 covers are displayed in full page size. I certainly would have picked different covers and I'm sure someone else would choose others still. So the simple thing to do would be to show each one in a full page, even if the book had to have 2 volumes.
If nothing else, this book can serve as a guide to the webhead's life from 1962 to 2003.
