5.0 out of 5 stars good comic books for kids, November 28, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I bought it for my boss' 4yr old son. In the beginning I worry it will be too much words in it instead of pics, but actually it totally out of my expectations! When you open the book, it all with color pics with few words, and the Sprider man "pop up" in front of you sometimes, and it totally met the younger age kids' needs! Both my boss and his son love the book! So do I. I would highly recommend the book to everyone who would like to buy it as gift for a young kid.

This is a great pop-up book! I had none of the problems listed by a previous reviewer. The book arrived in mint condition, and the pop-ups opened and closed without any problems. I am taking this book to my fourth grade class. I know the kids will love it! I'm looking forward to future Marvel pop-up books!

Nice little item that features classic Steve Ditko and John Romita Spider-Man art that pops right out at you! Great gift for that Spidey fan in your life (young or old!)

4.0 out of 5 stars Appealing Book for Spidey Fans, Not for Preschoolers, September 8, 2008
This review is from: The Amazing Spider-Man Pop-Up: Marvel True Believers Retro Collection (Hardcover)
Review by Sherry North, Author, Because You Are My Baby

My preschooler loves Spider-Man, so I got him this exciting pop-up edition. He loves the pop-up villains and often requests this book at story time. The problem is that there's really no coherent story to read. Each page offers information about a particular villain, plus some background on Spider-Man's adventures. This may be satisfying for older Spidey fans, but it doesn't work too well when you're trying to read to your child. Also, the pop-up figures are not sturdy enough to survive the enthusiasm of very small children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Odd shaped book, but a nice one, January 12, 2008

If you collect Spider-Man stuff, this is a good addition. The pop-ups are nicely done, especially Doc Ock with all those tentacles. As with all pop-up books, this is not meant for younger children.

While is does tell a story, it also gives the reader the information about the characters that is not always apparent in the later cartoon series and movies. It does pop-up on every page, but there are pullout sections with more information about the characters--their "back" story. It involves the reader in the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Web-Slinging Fun!, May 10, 2007
This review is from: The Amazing Spider-Man Pop-Up: Marvel True Believers Retro Collection (Hardcover)
Fans of the "friendly neighborhood web-slinger" will climb walls for Candlewick Press's new pop-up book featuring vintage artwork.

Featuring the story of how Peter Parker became the wise-cracking hero, this book also headlines seven of Spidey's worst enemies. Pull out info sheets on main characters and flaps with more background are peppered throughout.

Although geared toward children, this will also appeal to those kids who love one of Marvel's most popular comic book heroes. (Ages 5 & Up)

*Special Note* I did not find the same problems as listed by the first posted review (on May 6, 2007). My copy worked properly. The only "wrinkle" was caused by by 4-year-old daughter on the first page. And THAT is why it's for ages 5 & up! ;-)
