Book Description

Recounts the voyage in 1811 of the "New Orleans," the first steamboat to travel down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, a trip fraught with dangers including North America's most violent earthquake.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

In 1811, pioneer Nicholas Roosevelt captained the steamboat New Orleans on an adventurous, 2000-mile journey from Pittsburgh to New Orleans. PW was enthusiastic about this "buoyant history . . . all depicted as only Rounds can." Ages 7-10.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well Balanced Read, December 31, 2011
A well written narrative of American history. The drawings seem realistic and complimentary. The book's material is not covered in school text books but should be. The development of America and the demise of American Indians. A very quick read with a lot of well placed information. This type of book read by a grade school person will probably create a desire to learn more. With many aspects it is unlikely there would not be one or more areas for additional reading.
