Book Description

"The Amazing Wood-Gas Stove", the first volume in the 'A Simple DIY Project' series walks you step by step through the construction of a small inexpensive, or even free, wood-gas gasifier type camping stove. Built from materials you either probably have already on-hand, or can easily locate for nothing, you learn how to both make and use this truly amazing stove design.

The units described in this book are modified downdraft coaxial gasifier stoves. You will learn how it compares to other camping type stoves in side by side comparisons, theory of operation, how to build a wood-gas stove, uses for a gasifier stove, and accessories you can make for the unit after you have built one.

Though originally designed for outdoors use including hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, and wilderness survival, discover the stove which is perfect for major emergency use as well. Fuel is free, and the stove can be built for free using recycled materials. "The Amazing Wood-Gas Stove" is for anyone willing to tinker with a love of the outdoors, or wanting to prepare for emergencies.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

I started building these stoves many years back, personally use them, and give them away as gifts. It wasn't until after my family suffered a long term power outage due to an ice storm that I even considered writing a book to teach others how to make them.

With the wood-gas stove, I could cook and boil water for drinking, even though there was no electricity to power my well pump or the lights in my kitchen. The helped provide necessities such as drinking water and food through the critical first few days when we could not even exit the driveway.

I wondered afterward how many people found themselves without the ability to provide for even the basic needs for their families, and then wrote this book.

There are numerous uses for the stove type, and numerous sources of information. However, most of the information available on the net has little scientific reasoning or understanding behind it, and much of the rest is flawed. Many people make these devices not even knowing how they work or why. This means that they do not understand why one stove works, and then the next stove they build does not.

In The Amazing Wood-Gas Stove I tried to clear the confusion, and give ample understanding in order to build stoves which work properly the first time, every time.

I was intrigued by the idea that I could make a stove that burned scrap whatever out of trash for the recycling bin. My house is all electric and wanted a means to cook if power went out. I made this stove in an hour. Plan to make more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely a Simple DIY project! May 25, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Easy to read, good pictures, simple DYI project. I think this is a project that could be made for sale in a small business. It could also be a project that Boy and Girl Scouts could do as projects.

this book is easy to read and understand. and i like the comparisons of the different types of stoves available for camping all those choices. i am glad to know that i can build an inexpensive stove for camping. this book goes step by step with pictures diagrams and wording to show you how to do it. so it is worth the cost. so overall it is a good work if you do not know how to build a stove it tells you. weather you are a new camper to the seasoned woods man or seasoned camper that may have forgot how to make one this book is a must have.

Good instructions for building a basic gasification stove. There are a few typographical errors, but not so many as to be a detriment to the information.
