DECENT MAP, WITH A FEW SHORTCOMINGS, November 23, 2005
This review is from: Amazon Basin Map (Map)
This is the only map I found that covers the entire Amazon region, from Ecuador to Brazil. Just that is a nice plus for someone planning a trip in the Amazon. It also provides the location and name of even the smallest isolated communities in the Amazon, which is helpful when trying to locate them.
As drawbacks, I would two main issues:
1. Some of the towns mentioned do not exist - there are a few point in the map that indicate there should be a city and, when I got there, I found nothing. There are not many, but it is a bad feeling I can tell you.
2. It does not differentiate between mid-size and small cities. The size of the letter is the same for a city of 10 thousand and for a community of 100, but for the traveler it make a huge difference.
I would recommend it as good reference, but I would not rely on it entirely to plan my trip, I think a guide like Bradt's or Lonely Planet's would be a welcome support.
