Product Description

The Amazon Kindle 1 USB Cable connects a computer or USB hub to an Amazon Kindle 1 or other portable device with an A Plug, 5-Pin, Mini-B connection. It has 26-gauge power wire construction, molded-strain relief construction for flexible movement, durability, and fit, gold-plated copper contacts for premium conductivity, and aluminum undermold shielding to cut cross talk and interference. Meanwhile, brand-and-foil shield protection reduces electromagnetic and radio frequency interference. Kindle cannot be charged via usb cable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Older cable insulation just disintegrated, September 16, 2010

This review is from: Amazon 1st Generation Kindle Replacement USB Cable (Electronics)
The original cable supplied with the Amazon Kindle was manufactured with totally inferior outer insulation. This cable should be better but the original cable's outer, white insulation simply disintegrated and falls off in little pieces. I've never seen a wire insulation do that before in my entire life. This has got to be a China thing. Good grief.

5.0 out of 5 stars For those that say it "didn't fit your kindle" ...., April 1, 2011
This review is from: Amazon 1st Generation Kindle Replacement USB Cable (Electronics)
Then you do not have a "FIRST Generation Kindle"!
The original kindle takes this cable (The larger plug kind), while later Kindles take the smaller plug.
If you aren't sure which you are, if you do not have the silver side navigation tool, you are NOT the First Generation Kindle, and this cable will not work for you.
For those with the actual First Gen Kindle - this IS the cable that you need; the smaller cable for the newer Kindles will NOT work for you :-)
