4.0 out of 5 stars Older cable insulation just disintegrated
The original cable supplied with the Amazon Kindle was manufactured with totally inferior outer insulation. This cable should be better but the original cable's outer, white insulation simply disintegrated and falls off in little pieces. I've never seen a wire insulation do that before in my entire life. This has got to be a China thing. Good grief.

3.0 out of 5 stars Different cables for my Kindle.
This didn't work on my Kindle, gave it to a friend and it worked great on his. I would think all Kindles would use the same chargers.

5.0 out of 5 stars For those that say it "didn't fit your kindle" ...., April 1, 2011
This review is from: Amazon 1st Generation Kindle Replacement USB Cable (Electronics)
Then you do not have a "FIRST Generation Kindle"!
The original kindle takes this cable (The larger plug kind), while later Kindles take the smaller plug.
If you aren't sure which you are, if you do not have the silver side navigation tool, you are NOT the First Generation Kindle, and this cable will not work for you.
For those with the actual First Gen Kindle - this IS the cable that you need; the smaller cable for the newer Kindles will NOT work for you :-)

1.0 out of 5 stars Cord disintegrates!!!!, August 2, 2011
This review is from: Amazon 1st Generation Kindle Replacement USB Cable (Electronics)
I just called customer service who told me that the reason my cord (which has been kept in a drawer with other chargers cords that I have)has just FALLEN APART is because I have not used it in 6 months!!! Yes, that's right, she told me that if I had electricity passing through the cord within that six months that the cord would not have disintegrated and electrocuted me!!! SERIOUSLY!?!?!?! And oh, by the way, your warranty is up, so pay another $10 for an inferior cord that apparently needs an electric current to keep the plastic around the cord from CRUMBLING & FALLING OFF!!! PIECE OF CRAP, but what choice do I have to charge the overpriced Kindle I bought in 2009???????

When a good friend gave me her Kindle Ebook reader to take to the hospital for my kidney transplant, I was overjoyed, as I had wanted a Kindle ever since they came out. However, I wanted to load books not found on the Kindle site, and the cord had been lost. Thus, this USB cable allows me to download books from other Ebook sites, and in French, and transfer them to my Kindle. I wouldn't be without this cable for my Kindle!

4.0 out of 5 stars powering your Kindle, May 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Amazon 1st Generation Kindle Replacement USB Cable (Electronics)
I bought the USB cord for my Kindle from Amazon just before going on a long cruise. Luckily I had extra time because I bought the wrong one - not easy to determine what it is you actually need for the model you have. (I couldn't find anything on my Kindle that told me what model it is.) The good news was that Amazon's return procedure made returning the incorrect cord very easy (boxed it back up and it was picked up at my door at no charge), and the correct one came quickly as usual. The coating on the original cord suddenly started to disintegrate; I have no idea why. The new one works well, charges the Kindle for a long time and is light weight and easy to take along on a trip. So far I see no sign of it deteriorating, but it has only been about two months. If you turn off the connection to the Internet, the battery on the Kindle holds a charge for a long time, and it recharges fairly quickly. I love the Kindle and read a lot of books while on our trip. Keeping it charged was not a problem.

I appreciate the free replacement and shipping. The service rep was courteous and efficient and delivery was prompt. However, the product seems to be exactly the same as the original -- the one that came to pieces in my drawer. I am treating this one a little differently: I have hung it up on a wall from two hangers so that it doesn't bend too sharply at any point. It remains to be seen if this one will last longer than the original.

I purchased a replacement cable since my original cable's insulation was peeling off. The replacement cable did not fit my Kindle. The connector was too large.
I returned it to Amazon with an explanation....and have never heard anything since.

1.0 out of 5 stars USB end is not correct connector, October 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Amazon 1st Generation Kindle Replacement USB Cable (Electronics)
I ordered this replacement cable because my first one got garbled up by the vacuum cleaner. Unfortunately, the replacement cable for the 1st generation Kindle does not have the correct USB connector to fit my Kindle. I plan on returning it and trying to go to some stores that carry Kindles so that I can match up the USB end with my Kindle and make sure it fits. What a drag!! Are there really two types of 1st generation Kindle USB cables?
