Got my copy of the Combo Pack today. Went to go to the advertised site on the voucher, but they have iTunes, Google Play, and Vudu, with the UV option via Flixster. No Amazon Instant Video option yet..
We apologize for the inconvenience. Due to numerous customer complaints with the Amazon Instant Video redemption process, this option has been disabled. We are working vigorously with Amazon to streamline the process. We cannot provide an ETA on when this will be available again.
That's what I got too. But what complaints are they talking about? The Season hasn't even released before today. I am not using my DC voucher until I know I can put this right beside my Season 1 and Season 2 on AIV.
Same here--I encountered no problems. For Season 2, I was able to redeem my digital copy through Amazon AND through UV. Do you know if we can do the same with this one? I ask because we could always download a UV copy and watch it through Flixster until they fix this problem.
I tested my code on Amazon Claim Code redemption (not sure if it's done there), but didn't work. I used my old claim codes and got my Flixster stuff activated for the UV codes. But I am still waiting for my Amazon stuff.
I'm hoping that it happens. I didn't have any problems with the previous ones I redeemed from Amazon. I hate having digital copies spread everywhere with various services. I hate iTunes's idiotic DRM, I really don't want to sign up for VUDU, and even though I have a Google play account from being a droid owner, I really don't want to have to sign in to someplace else to watch a season of GOT. Just like Steam, I want to keep my stuff in one location.
I had a problem with Season 2 redemption on Amazon and even had to contact HBO and send pictures as proof of purchase to let them generate a new code for me. As with everyone else, it would be pity if HBO will change their streaming redemption providers midstream as I would hate trying to remember where what season is available. This whole digital redemption process is completely broken and is the whole reason I am refusing to simply accept digital distribution over physical purchases. Steam was lucky in PC gaming area to create early monopoly that they were able to (more or less) sustain. With digital video (and books), there literally dozens of big and small players that do not recognize each other and do not provide any compatibility or transfer of the purchase rights. Consumers are left with hoops to jump through just to register their codes and with fragmented libraries of content that have zero guarantee of still being available few years from now. Well, don't act surprised that many of consumers would resort to illegally downloading digital copies of the content that could have been provided much simpler and often in better quality via official distribution channels.
I'm in the same boat, I don't have my blu-ray player tonight and I was going to start watching on Amazon Instant Video, but the option was not on the redemption page. I don't like using iTunes Because Im pretty sure you have to download the entire season to your computers hard drive. For season 2 they just gave us a promotional credit for amazon instant video, and I think some people were able to get different shows or movies with that credit, not the fault of the consumer, but on amazon for allowing any content to be purchased with the credit, how hard can it be? common amazon!
I guess I look at the digital copy as a backup or for use when I don't want to get out the disk. I'm still going to get it on iTunes and flixter plus the blu ray and the dads, so it's not like they don't give you options to watch. Plus with this show it should be experienced on Blu-ray not crapy streaming quality! :)
I did that though! When I placed the order, I saw nothing explicitly saying it included streaming through the Amazon Digital Marketplace. This prompted me to call Amazon and at the time I was told that yes, when I get the Blu-Ray, it would ship with a slip of paper and a code that could be used for Amazon digital redemption.
Would be great if an Amazon rep could respond to this or if they could place some kind of message about it on the product page! Are Amazon reps reading this?
I went to Amazon's Live Chat about this. Got re-directed through seven or eight CSR's...but they gave me the option to either get a replacement copy or a refund. Now, if you wanted the digital copy regardless, and you spend $30 or so with the launch-day pricing, then you'd have to spend more to get the Digital copy. So, I asked for my digital copy as a settlement. They gave me the HD version (but not SD) on my account. Although I wish I could have gotten the SD version too, I won't argue. I have a PS3 and will get a PS4 or a suitable Blu-ray player so I can have the Amazon Instant Video app.
In addition, the code in the package still works on iTunes, Flixster, Vudu, and Google Play. I would recommend least getting the Flixster for the Ultraviolet. I added a bunch of my Blu-Rays, including my Game of Thrones Seasons 1, 2, and 3 (each bought during their launch weeks) recently...so if Amazon falls through, I'll still have Flixster.
I didn't get my set from Amazon, but hoped to redeem the digital copy here. Amazon support told me to take it up with HBO. So I filled out a web support form there. No response yet. I suggest everyone here do the same. Maybe if they get enough complaints they will enable amazon (but I'm not holding my breath).
Sure would be great if Amazon (with their usual excellent customer service) could get this worked out with HBO to make this happen. If not, I guess I've bought my last HBO set.
All I did was execute patience and mention to them that I could not get my Season 3 digital copy redeemed. Since I had bought Season 1 and 2 through Amazon before and got the DC's with those, I went through seven or eight CSR's (redirected in the same chat, mind you) before I was given option of replacement or refund. Instead, I opted for my digital copy since it'd have cost more than $30. It's all about reasoning and being polite and coherent when speaking with them.
Good news. I had better luck stating my case via email (rather than Chat). I explained that I felt a bit misled, that I would prefer to use Amazon rather than one of their competitors for digital copies, and that I hope they work things out with HBO and keep us informed about progress. I didn't ask for it, but they offered to waive the cost of a digital copy for me.
I got the HD copy but not the SD copy added after re-direct, after re-direct, after re-direct. If HBO and Amazon are going to have disagreements on this and can't get it figured out for the near future or with Season 4 onward, then I may as well embrace Flixster/UV to get everything consolidated.
I believe I will only have the HD copy as well. I think it helped that in my email to customer service I linked to this forum thread and another so they know that a lot of customers aren't pleased about the situation. I have hope that they will get it fixed.
It would be nice if we got both the SD and HD copies (since the AIV store has both listings) just like we did with Seasons 1 and 2 of Game of Thrones. I just can't understand what HBO and Amazon are into with one another that's making this so complicated.
