4.0 out of 5 stars Overall a Good Design and Stylish Case September 20, 2012
By jsh1120
Purchased both this case and the Marware Axis case for our new Kindle Fire HD. Each has strengths and weaknesses. For those considering both cases, I'll try to compare them.

() Weight. The Amazon case (AC) is MUCH thinner and lighter than the Marware case. Whether this an advantage or disadvantage depends on several considerations, but the fact remains that the AC adds little to the weight and bulk of the KFHD. The MC swaddles the KFHD in a significantly heavier and bulkier case. Advantage: AC in everyday use.

() Protection. The disadvantage of the MC in terms of weight is balanced by the protection it provides. The MC case is well padded; the AC is not. The MC includes a separate inner plastic shell that increases both shock protection and functionality. (See below.) The MC includes an elastic band to hold the cover closed; the AC relies exclusively on the weak magnetic closure to keep the cover closed. The AC is adequate in this regard but the MC is a sure thing. Advantage: MC

() Functionality. Again, different designs and different choices. Both covers provide for "sleep mode" when closed. The elastic band on the MC makes opening the cover more involved but it also provides a more secure closure and less of a chance that the cover can open when packed in a bag. Advantage: Depends on what's important to you.

The AC provides covers over the KFHD's speakers, and easy to feel button/rocker covers for power and volume. The MC's internal plastic shell provides only cutouts. Advantage: AC. For those who have trouble locating the external buttons, it's a BIG advantage for the AC.

Edited review: When the case is brand new it is a little stiff and plastic looking, it softens nicely after use and looks more like real leather. I still don't like the lint and hair absorbing lining, but I have learned to adapt to it's weakness (sliding open on smooth surfaces). I do like how it remains shut in a purse and safe.In the end I am glad I own it.

Original Review: Looks more like plastic than "genuine leather". Does not remain standing on a flat surface - slides open everytime (how many times before Kindle is harmed?)The Kindle Genuine leather case (Marware) is much better, safer, cheaper and is definitely genuine leather.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too Slick November 17, 2012
Verified Purchase
The first thing that I noticed was that the price seemed high. But I thought for that amount it must be a good product. Once it arrived, I installed my Kindle Fire HD into it (it fit perfectly) but the case is so slick that one needs to think about carrying it so that it doesn't slide out of one's grip (which has happened to me several times). To it's credit, the case has protected my Kindle Fire when I dropped it. Another problem is getting it to prop up at the correct angle in the horizontal mode without the back of the cover sliding away. One gets only one angle in the vertical mode which is straight up and down. But, at least the back doesn't slide away. Fortunately, there are other products available that cost less and are more versatile.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it, but color representations are a bit off October 27, 2012

I love the way this fits my Kindle and leaves all ports available. However, I ordered the Royal Purple and it is nearly a black color - not at all the swatch color.

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT Case !Saddle tan is a pretty color :) September 26, 2012
Verified Purchase
I brought the Saddle Tan color, after I placed the order I had doupts about my color choice.
When the case came I was VERY pleased with the color!!!! The pics DO NOT show its true color. It is a VERY pretty medium rusty tan .
The case it self is light weight but sturdy, It turns off & on when the cover is moved.
the only down to it is the price. Wish is was cheaper but if your looking for a good study case with great looks & functions then this is a good choice.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very misleading description. January 29, 2013

I'm only giving three stars because this case fits and works great... But, it is not leather. It's a cheap plastic that only looks like leather. It doesn't even feel like it. All of the other features of this case work and feel great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely perfect January 20, 2013
Verified Purchase
This case fits the Kindle Fire like a glove. Before I had the case, I would accidently press the wrong button trying to put my tablet to sleep. Now all I need to do is flip the lid shut. It has ventillation in the right places--I've literally found nothing wrong with it. Another added bonus is that the Fire slips less when you prop it on a pillow or something, even in the vertical mode. I would highly recommend it. My only regret is that the Saddle Tan is rather a conservative color. . .some others may look more fun.

My wife has this case and I have envious of it for some time. I have seen hers in action and felt it was time for one. This is the case for this Kindle, period.
