How does this work?

Permissions
An important note regarding permissions: Amazon Mobile requires access to the following services to operate properly:
Location: Due to the fact that this is now a worldwide app, location permissions are required to support a delivery service feature offered by Amazon in France and Japan. Only in those stores is the location data required or used. In those locations you are able to request delivery to a convenience store closest to your current location. That service is not available in other Amazon countries.
Phone calls: Within the app you are able to place a call to Amazon Customer Service. Tap Menu > More > Help > Call Customer Service, and we will place the proper number in the phone app and dial it.
Take pictures: bar code scanning requires access to the camera function if you choose to start the bar code scanner from the app.
Requires Android OS 2.0 or higher and a rear facing camera.

I like using amazon.com but this app pales in comparison. There are no filters for searches. Yes, you can choose a department, but that is the least useful filter. Searching by price, size, discounts... along with all the other filters available on the site would make this app much better. UNINSTALLED.

This is a must have app if you frequently shop on Amazon. It runs really smooth on my evo, makes shopping on amazon a breeze. Much easier to use than a mobile web browser to view the web page on your phone. I use it frequently when I am out shopping and want to check prices and reviews. Amazon is almost always cheaper than local stores, so its an easy way to save money.
Ordering items through the app is very easy. I have completed the process several times and had no errors or order problems.
The one problem I have with this app is the bar code scanner. I can almost never get bar code scanners to work and this app is no different. I often feel like an idiot standing in a store trying to get this app to read a bar code. On the flip side, the app almost always finds the item I am looking for when I search via keyword search or texting a picture.

The newest version does not allow you to search for an item by taking a picture - only by bar code. Most of the time that's fine, but sometimes there isn't a bar code available. Also, the earlier versions would buzz the phone when an item that you were searching for was found. This was a really useful feature because you could go on browsing through other items while Amazon was searching and bringing up the product page. How do I get back to the older version?

I had an older version of this app and just did the update. I wish I had not updated. I am an Amazon seller and this download does not work for barcode scanning multiple books. It was a great tool, and now it is awful. I will probably remove it since it is now useless for me. Somehow Amazon managed to take something that worked well, and ruined it. It maybe ok to the average consumer, but amazon has hurt their independent sellers that are just starting out and can't afford 3rd party scanners

Once again amazon makes you jump through hoops, fill out card details and then tells you you can't download due to geographical restriction (Australia). I can download from the android market but not from amazon, join the 21st century and let any one down load from anywhere or at least advise people that they can't use it unless they live in the US. Would have given it zero stars but it wont let me.

I own a Motorolla Xoom. The APP only provides a simple search interface. You can't browse categories. Therefore going to the website is easier for me. If they eventually update it than this maybe a good application.

as a seller on amazon.com I use my Xoom to look up books' value and sales rank when I shop for books. this app allows me to scan barcodes just fine but crashes EVERY TIME I try to get to the 'used items' section which makes this app worthless to me. have contacted amazon to no avail.
