Amazon kindle DX Rubber case and DX screen protector

Although I was very happy with my Kindle DX when I received it, unfortunately the screen is now damaged due to a misguided attempt to protect it. Through Amazon's site I purchased an LCD screen protector made for the Kindle DX. The rest of the story & Amazon's response is in the following emails:

Dear Vangoddy Customer Service:
I was advised by Amazon's customer service to email you regarding the damage to my new Kindle DX while applying your LCD Screen Protector. Let me preface this by saying that I have applied screen protectors to IPods before so I am familiar with the proper way to use this product and even used latex gloves to handle the protector. I followed the instructions carefully and slowly began to apply the protector to the Kindle screen but noticed that it was not perfectly aligned so as the instructions state I began to "lift the screen protector and reapply". Immediately upon doing this I noticed that several large bubbles (1/4"-1/2" in diameter) had formed on the LCD screen itself.
To prevent any further damage to the unit I slowly removed the screen protector the rest of the way but more small bubbles had formed. After removing the protector I used the cloth provided with the product and managed to work some of the large bubbles out of the LCD screen, however the damage has been done.
I ordered my Kindle DX on Sept 24, 2009 so as you can see I have owned it for only one month and the screen has been ironically ruined in my effort to protect it from damage. To say that I am profoundly disappointed in putting it mildly. Amazon customer service stated that in order to fix the screen they will charge me a $255.00 repair fee, which I cannot justify for an item that is practically new and which cost $490.00 in the first place.
I have attached 3 pictures of the screen damage. In them you will see darker spots that look like water droplets. Those are the bubbles left in the LCD screen and after several attempts to push them out they appear to be permanent.

The following email is the response from Amazon:
Please be informed that Based on your description of the issue, we can only send you another Kindle DX for $255.00 as the damage isn't covered under warranty.
The limited warranty applies only to hardware components of the Device that are not subject to accident, misuse, neglect, fire or other external causes, unauthorized use, alterations or repair, or commercial use.
Taking your concern as a feedback, I have forwarded your comments to our Kindle team. Customer feedback like yours helps us continue to improve the service we provide, and we're glad you took time to write to us. Please let us know if this e-mail resolved your question.

Well, I am still very disappointed in the response from Amazon & I warn everyone who reads this to never apply a screen protector to your Kindle. I am surprised that Amazon does not warn it's customers that the screen is not like a laptop or ipod screen & that the screen layers could separate. And although I understand that the warranty cannot cover everything, I think Amazon needs to offer more repair options to it's customers, particularly when the unit has been out of the box for only 3 weeks! I think it is unreasonable for Amazon to charge me another $255.00 for damage that is both minimal & cosmetic.

I purchased my Kindle DX few weeks ago and I have been having a hard time finding something that would protect and keep my Kindle clean but not add a lot of extra weight onto it. They have leather cases for it, but it was too inconvenient for me to have to put it in and and it out of there every time I wanted to use it no to mention the extra weight. That is when I found this great Kindle DX skin! It's just like the skins that you would have on your blackberry to keep it from minor bumps and bruises and keeps it clean as well! I was a bit worried on how to clean my Kindle, but now it's so easy just to clean the silicone skin instead. Just rinse and dry! I have gotten quite a few of these skins for my family and friend who are in the Kindle club with me and they love it as well. This is a GREAT buy and a great investment not to mention a great way to personalize your Kindle. I have 4 different colors that I can mix and match depending on what I feel like. With each order it also came with a wonderful screen protector that keeps my screen safe and clean from scratches and dust. Just another great benefit from this buy. I totally recommend this to ANYONE who has a Kindle!

This silicone cover is very nice. Very snug, though it slips on easily. The Kindle DX by itself feels great in the hands, with this cover it is different but still very nice. Doesn't impact the Kindle's functionality or readability in any way.

Doesn't cover the screen, of course, so doesn't actually protect it from a blow the way a full cover would. It doesn't need to be "opened" to use the Kindle - you just pick up your Kindle and go. That convenience, plus the light weight, is what convinced me to go with this skin rather than a cover. (Plus, the price is much lower than a cover.)

The included anti-scratch protector should protect it from small scratches, and installs very easily.

This is my second product purchased in attempt to protect my unit from sand and dust. Unfortunately, I had to return this as well because it is not a very good fit to the DX and does not protect the screen at all. So far, this has been the worst one yet, so I continue my quest in finding a solution for protecting a Kindle under dusty environments.

The Anti Scratch LCD Screen Portector was just a teeny tiny too big for the screen size and I could not get it to fit over the screen. It always stuck out, just a little bit. The rubber skin case was too floppy and did not fit snuggly around the screen and button area. I was disappointed.

the plastic covering is very hard to get right, if you dont peel it right, you will have bubbles.

the rubber covering does not fit exactly and sticks up in places, could be a bit more elastic on
the inner parts to pull it snug.

the light is ok, not the best but not the worst.

The cover/case really doesn't fit the kindle very well. The edges along the screen do not lay flat against the kindle. They bow out giving it not only a bad appearance, but it allows stuff to easily get under it. Also, the screen protector that it comes with just barely fits. I'm not going to comment negatively on that because I stink at getting screen protectors on things.

The overall thickness and feel of the case is good. They just need to adjust the fit.

Very happy with the Kindle. The print is extremely easy to read with no eye fatigue and the print size is readily adjusted. The screen to my mind duplicates a printed page to perfection. The technology is pretty amazing. Another real plus is the battery life which is excellent particularly if you keep the wireless off which for most people will be most of the time. I personally find the Kindle Store book selection to be excellent. Purchasing on the fly on your Kindle is a piece of cake. Really pleasantly surprised with this product. The DX version of course costs more but the size of the screen and storage memmory make this model shine. This model is a bit heavier which may impact a few buyers who may wish to opt for the smaller version. I personally do not find the Kindle DX weighty by any stretch of the imagination. I also purchased the Kindle DX Rubber Case and screen protector. Both are easy to apply and give the unit protection from scratches and such. My only regret is that I did not buy a Kindle sooner.

The case was difficult to put on the Kindle. It ended been overstreched in certain parts. The glass protector was too big. It should come as the correct size as it is meant for a Kindle.
