5.0 out of 5 stars Amazon made firewire purchase painless, November 24, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: AmazonBasics IEEE 1394 4-Pin/6-Pin FireWire Cable (6 Feet/1.8 Meters) (Personal Computers)
After spending a frustrating hour at Fry's trying (and failing) to get some basic information to purchase a firewire that was inexpensive but guaranteed good quality transfer, I went home empty-handed. Then I went on Amazon.com, found exactly what I wanted with a complete description, guarantee and low cost. The firewire arrived within two days, and immediately I was capturing high-quality video for editing on Final Cut Pro. As one of the last brick and mortar electonics stores still in business, Fry's will probably be the next to go -- based on the employees' complete lack of interest in helping their "customers." They lost the firewire sale and the VHS conversion-to-digital deal.

I purchased this firewire cable to convert my miniDV camcorder tapes to a digital format on my PC. It worked great. The cable seems to be high quality and costs less than 25% of what it would cost in a big box store. Great value!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality cable with great packaging., October 10, 2009

This review is from: AmazonBasics IEEE 1394 4-Pin/6-Pin FireWire Cable (6 Feet/1.8 Meters) (Personal Computers)
Cable is not too thin and fragile looking, gold plated connectors, and works fine.

The main attraction here would be the decent price and the excellent packaging. If you've ever had to open retail cables in their blister packs you'll appreciate the cable being packed in a small, nondescript cardboard box.

4.0 out of 5 stars Low price high quality, April 6, 2010

This review is from: AmazonBasics IEEE 1394 4-Pin/6-Pin FireWire Cable (6 Feet/1.8 Meters) (Personal Computers)
I ordered this cable for a firewire drive enclosure. I assumed it would just be an inexpensive FireWire cable with a thin jacket and little shielding. I was wrong. The cable itself is sturdy, has a nice thick jacket, and works perfectly. I've used it to capture video and attach storage to a laptop, and so far it has worked flawlessly.

I rate things as follows:
1 star - Far below expectations / Completely unsatisfactory
2 star - Below expectations / Unsatisfactory
3 star - Met expectations / Satisfactory
4 star - Exceeded expectations / Very satisfactory
5 star - Far exceeded expectations / Beyond satisfactory

5.0 out of 5 stars You could pay $30+ for a brand name cable.. Buy why?, March 3, 2010

This review is from: AmazonBasics IEEE 1394 4-Pin/6-Pin FireWire Cable (6 Feet/1.8 Meters) (Personal Computers)
I am so excited to see Amazon taking on the big retailers and offering cables that are appropriately priced. Go to any Staples, Radio Shack, OfficeMax, Best Buy, etc. and you'll be lucky if you can find this same cable for less than thirty dollars. It's downright criminal. This Amazon cable fit my camcorder and Mac perfectly, and performs just as well as those name brand cables that cost five times as much. Save your money, and buy it here. End of story.

The cable works perfectly and it was great to just open a box and use it as opposed to fighting the typical hard plastic shell!

This cable was just what was needed for downloading camcorder video to the computer for editing. The Amazon frustration free packaging was a welcome bonus. The cable itself is sturdy and flexible, not too stiff or too flimsy. A very affordable solution. Amazon's shipping was on time as expected.

Ordered this cable instead of the less expensive Belkin cable because it has pretty, shiny gold plated contacts. The cable I received was flakey - the small end didn't make consistent contact with mating connectors in either of two different devices. I have another cable that I used to verify that all of the connections should work. After procrastinating for a couple of months, I contact Amazon and they arranged a no-cost warrantee replacement. The second cable that I received was stone cold dead. Again, I contacted Amazon, and this time they refunded my original purchase price and gave me free 2-day shipping on the Belkin cable. THANK YOU AMAZON CUSTOMER SERVICE for making this as relatively painless as you could.
