This worked ok for the first two months.

Now the connection to the wall and to the phone is loose, and I have to wiggle it around to find just the right position for it to work.

Also none of the adapters have worked to power any of my mini USB devices.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Pros:

LED light lets you know it's working (nice touch - really)
USB cable is attached and part of the device (hard to lose)
Solid feel, fairly long cable (five feet)
Nice fold down plug in prongs (slightly easier to store)
Can be used with most small devices with micro and mini USB ports

Cons(iderations):

Slightly underpowered (500 MA amperage - see below) - smaller devices only
Can't be used with most modern Apple devices (iPads and iPhones)
__________________________________________________________________________

USB wall chargers will have two "Output" values clearly printed on them, albeit in really tiny letters. This charger is listed as:

Output: 5.0 VDC / 500 MA (5.0 volts Direct Current / 500 milliamps)

That means 5.0 volts of direct current and 500 milliamps ("rate of flow"). This is exactly the same as my factory USB charger for my Blackberry Curve cell phone. I use this as an extra charger for my Blackberry at work.

Before getting an extra, or a replacement, charger for your device, check the output values listed on your existing charger, or check the documentation for the device you will be charging. You can't go wrong if you purchase a charger with the exact volts and amps as indicated (though higher amps is OK - see below). The output of 500 milliamps is fairly common for many cell phones. The 5.0 volts DC is also pretty common for a lot of devices.

If your device requires a charger with higher amperage, such as an Android tablet, this could still charge it, but at a lot slower rate. Say you have an Android tablet which normally uses a charger rated at 2.0 amps. When you use this to recharge it you'll probably need to do it overnight at least. But it will work.

Although this Micro USB Wall Charger looks a lot like AmazonBasics' other USB wall charger (AmazonBasics Wall Charger with USB Outlet (2.1 Amp Output)), if you have Kindle Fire or iPad, it is NOT as good for two reasons:

1. The charger has an electrical current output of only 0.5 A (500 mA), which is sufficient for small USB devices, but if you want to charge Kindle Fire or iPad, it will take a very long time. The Fire requires 1.8 A and the iPad requires 2.1 A of charging current.

2. The charger and the micro USB cord are permanently attached together. Although there is a mini USB converter, this means the charger can only be used for USB devices with micro and mini sockets, and cannot be used for regular USB 2.0 devices.

Therefore, for the Kindle Fire and Apple iPad 1 & 2, I'd suggest AmazonBasics Wall Charger with USB Outlet( 2.1 Amp Output) which has the needed high current (2.1 A) to charge these devices quickly. It also has a USB 2.0 socket that allows you to plug in many kinds of USB cables.

For iPad, just use the Apple 30 pin data/charging cable. For the Fire, you also need to get a separate micro USB cable which serves two purposes: attach it to this charger to charge the Fire, or attach to a PC or Mac to transfer files bi-directionally. Don't use a micro USB cable from your cellphone, as it may look identical but often won't work. This AmazonBasics cable is high quality and costs only $6. AmazonBasics USB Cable - 2.0 A Male to Micro B (6 Feet / 1.8 Meters)

This combo costs $16 and offers FAST charging and more flexible use of both the charger and the micro USB cable.

...but check the specs of the device you plan to use it with first. The charger has an output of 5.0 V, which meets the standards for USB 1.x and 2.0. The main thing to check, though, is how much current (typically expressed in units of mA for the kinds of devices this charger is designed for) your device requires to charge. The 500 mA of current put out by the charger may not be sufficient for your intended use.

I tried using the charger on a MP3 Player, a waterproof camcorder, and a PS3 Controller. It worked without any problems on the MP3 player and camcorder but was not able to charge the PS3 controller for some reason. This reinforces the importance of a spec check, if possible, before ordering.

In any case, the charger itself is well constructed and designed. The plug prongs fold flush into the charger enclosure, which is a nice feature for travelers, a red LED lights up when the charger is plugged in, and the cable has a sturdy vinyl covering. Two types of male USB plugs are provided: a micro plug is permanently attached to the cable and a dongle allows connections to mini USB ports.

Bottom line: a good replacement charger, especially for mobile use, as long as it matches your device's charging requirements.

----------
Addendum (Dec. 2013)
This charger does not provide sufficient current for use with Apple iPhones or iPads. The best route for these devices is to pick up an Apple 12 Watt charger--or the equivalent--because their batteries require more than 500mA to charge effectively. Apple presently provides a 1A charger with iPhones and a 2.4A charger with iPads.
