For only $25? Wow, a buy even at $40!, November 23, 2011
This review is from: AmazonBasics Leather Folio Cover with Multi-Angle Adjustable Stand for Kindle Fire, Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 (Black) (Electronics)
Okay, I waited until I saw some reviews of various cases for my newly purchased Kindle Fire. And then I went and looked at some well-known retail stores to get a "hands-on" of available cases. After looking into the various options, I decided to purchase the AmazonBasics case. To the reviewer that indicated it smells "bad" -- the smell is because you are dealing with REAL leather, not some man-made material. And yes, the smell (which is faint and not intense) will fade in time, especially as it is exposed to sun and heat which will dry and further "cure" the leather. Go into a really good men's leather goods shop, and it will have a similar smell -- it is actually a good sign of quality material. Stitching is well done. Nothing more to say on that. Flexibility is good, and it is also strong where needed. I have no issue bending the case back, and it actually is "hinged" in two places along the spine to make it easier to bend both open and closed. It is also stiff where needed, with solid backing behind the leather. I have little worry about normal activity resulting in any sort of puncture damage through to the Fire. It isn't bullet-proof, and I wouldn't suggest using it as a shield, but for the Fire it should prove more than adequate. The elastic that holds the Fire is tight and it doesn't move around much once in, but like another reviewer, I would be more comfortable if they were set a bit further in. I suspect that they weren't because if they were in deeper, they would cover much more of the speakers, which would impair the sound. The closure elastic is fine, and is much like that which you would find on a nice Moleskine-style book. It holds the case closed firmly, and is set far enough in it is unlikely to come undone. There is some potential concern over this elastic wearing out over time, but I don't think that is significant unless you are constantly using it. The interior is soft and should not cause any concern over scratching the device. Now, for the stand function. This is perfect; it has three grooves that give a good variety of angles, and the grooves are deep enough to ensure it stays in place with all but the most severe attempts to dislodge it. Is there a better case out there? Perhaps, but certainly not for this price. And from what I saw, I have yet to find one even at $40 or more.

Solid case for your kindle fire for the price, November 25, 2011
This review is from: AmazonBasics Leather Folio Cover with Multi-Angle Adjustable Stand for Kindle Fire, Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 (Black) (Electronics)
I purchased this case for my Amazon Kindle Fire. I bought it because it is the cheapest leather case with a stand. Positive: It is a good price. Looks professional. The stand works perfectly. Negative: The kindle fire pops out of the four elastic bands that hold it into place too easily. I could see the bands as the part to fail sometime in the future. This case makes the Kindle fire too thick to fit into a pants pocket. Definitely could be thinner. Made in China. Bottom line: It isn't the perfect case but I would definitely buy again just for the price and the professional looks.

Great case for a great price, a bit hefty though..., November 21, 2011
This review is from: AmazonBasics Leather Folio Cover with Multi-Angle Adjustable Stand for Kindle Fire, Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 (Black) (Electronics)
I bought this as a general purpose case to protect my Kindle Fire when carrying it to and fro. On that count, it certainly does the job with 7.5mm of firm padding backing either cover, clad in black leather on the outside and soft grey microfiber inside. The backboard which the Fire straps into via 4 elastic retaining straps is 3.7mm thick and clad in the same grey microfiber. Fasteners: There are four elastic retaining straps, one at each corner of the backboard and a fifth long loop, made of a more forgiving material running the length of the back cover which can be pulled forward to hold the case closed. The four retaining straps work well enough to keep the Fire in place and the tablet certainly won't pop our in normal use, but I wouldn't mind if the moorings of each were placed just a bit farther apart to better grip each corner of the Fire. The fifth strap works well to hold the case closed and I generally prefer this method to snaps or zippers in a case like this. However, if there's one part of this case that's going to fail it will be the moorings for these straps as each is held is place with just four stitches. Quality: The finish of this case is very nice, particularly considering the price. The stitches binding everything together are tight and true without any exposed loose ends. There's a small 30x9mm "amazon basics" logo discreetly embossed on one corner of the front cover. The case emits a nice leathery aroma, if you're into that type of thing. As a stand: Used as a stand, the backboard slides solidly into each of the notches for 3 different viewing angles. There won't be any slippage here. As a handheld: If you've used a fold-back cover on a previous Kindle, you know what to expect here. In this orientation I imagine some might find the case bulky while others will prefer the added size and now exposed microfiber backing for holding on. The fifth strap comes in handy again here as it slots nicely into one of the stand notches to hold the folded cover in place. Size: This is one area where I think the case could have been better, or at least thinner. With the Kindle Fire inserted and case closed the resulting pacakge measures 197mm (7.75in) long, 130mm (5.12in) wide and 30mm (1.2in) thick. In other words, it's just hair longer and slightly wider than a naked Kindle Fire, but nearly 2.5 times as thick. This is a problem for me as it precludes me from slipping the Fire into the inside breast pocket of my jacket as I'd grown accustomed, but it's not a deal breaker. Overall the AmazonBasics Leather Folio Cover with Multi-Angle Adjustable Stand for Kindle Fire, Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 (Black) is a great case for a great price.
