Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )Verified Purchase
I purchased both the 3' and the 6' one day before I was able to get another 6' via the Vine program. The way it's been as of late, more is better than one, since lately, cables tend to have a limited life span. These 3 cables replaced the original Apple cable that came with the Ipod Touch 5, which died after only a month.

The first cable (6') received was purchased. It was used for 2 weeks, when the wire mysteriously seemed to separate or melt away from the connector, leaving exposed wires, on the device end, not the USB end. While the cable still works, there is no way I am keeping this cable, since it is now a fire hazard. The item was boxed up and is being returned, with 1 day to spare. Exchange/reorder isn't an option, since the item is "under review".

The third cable (6') received was obtained via Vine. It was used for 1 week, and the same thing happened!

The second cable (3') received was purchased. It is currently being used. The main reason I purchased these cables was because they have a one year warranty, which I'm fully expecting to need to use.

I purchased this twice. Once for my iPhone, and for my daughters' iPad mini's. When my daughter lost hers, we purchased another one 3 months later. It worked great... until just now. My daughter went to pick up her iPad after it had been charging for 2 hours, and noticed that the casing around the pin part of the cord was melted! I can only imagine what would have happened had she been charging it over night. This is a fire hazard. I've contacted Amazon to use the warranty, and instead of that, they will just refund my money. I suggest if you plan on purchasing something like this for your iProducts, to purchase them directly from Apple and pay that extra $15.

Outside plastic sheath came off on the phone end exposing the wires. It happened just after the normal return period but after a chat with the Amazon rep, they let me return it for a refund anyway. Spending the extra money to get one from the Apple Store.

Other reviewers have said the cables come apart, the cord pulling away from the plug. I figured people were pulling on the wire itself rather than the plug, so I ordered two.

It turns out the negative reviews were right. Even though I've never pulled the cable itself, both of mine have come apart at the phone connector side. The cable sheathing isn't sealed or glued to the plug end at all. I'm disappointed that Amazon would put their name on this low quality, poorly made cable.

This charger charged okay, until it looked like it caught on fire.
After i unplugged my phone, my phone with getting odd error messages. Then I went to plug my phone back in at night and I was having a hard time putting the charger in the phone. I looked down and the charger (where you plug into iphone) was like BURNT. It looks like it almost caught on fire. I am so thankful that so far my phone seems okay - but the charger is wrecked. I have pictures of it, just don't know how to attach it to your form on the site.
I would like a refund or an exchange or something - just dont want this charger to do damage to my expensive iphone!

I am a huge Amazon fan, so when I saw they had a 6 foot lightning cord, I ordered it promptly. I've used it very lightly for the last month (haven't even unplugged it from the wall adapter) and not only has the metal wiring become exposed, the black casing around the part that connects to my iPhone fell off, exposing the metal interior. By contrast, the Apple lightning cord that came with my iPhone 10 months ago is still in good shape. Very disappointed!

I really wanted a 6' lightning cable to use while charging my Iphone 5S in bed. The standard 3' cable is just too short to use comfortably while charging. The AmazonBasics 6' USB A to Lightning Cable had a great price and seemed to fit the bill. Reading through the reviews though, I found many that stated that the plastic on the lightning connector end is thicker than the OEM cable. They stated it doesn't fit certain cases, the new official Iphone 5/5S leather case being one of them. Unfortunately, that is the exact case I have on my Iphone 5S.

I gave up on the AmazonBasics cord and searched for another 6' lightning cable, but I could not find a cable that didnt have reviews stating that it was thicker than the OEM cable. I finally decided to buy the AmazonBasics cable and try it. I figured if it doesn't fit I may be able to sand down the plastic to a point where it does fit. I received the cable a few days ago and I'm happy to report it DOES fit in the official Iphone 5/5S leather case. I don't see much of a size difference in the lightning end when looking closely at this cable versus the OEM cable. I'm a bit confused about the previous reviews stating that the cable does not fit. Maybe AmazonBasics redesigned the lightning end of the cable to match the OEM version? In any case, I'm very happy with it.

Other notes on the cable: It seems well made. The cable itself is thicker than the OEM cable. The up side is that it seems to be more durable, the downside is that it doesn't roll up as easily. The 6' length is convenient. I can lay in bed or sit in a chair and use the Iphone while the unit is charging.

All in all, I'm glad I picked it up. Double the length at three quarters the price of the 3' OEM cable. Not bad.

Pros:

- Should fit almost any case, including the official Iphone 5/5S leather case. The plastic around the lightning cable end seems to be pretty much the same size as the OEM cable

- The cable itself is thicker than the OEM version and seems more durable.

- The 6' length is great for charging while you are using the phone.

- The price

Cons:

- The cable, being thicker, does not roll up as easily as the OEM version. It also tends to hold its shape more than the OEM, so you need to straighten it out after unrolling.

I like the cord and the length and it works flawlessly in terms of connecting to my iPhone without any compatibility errors. However, I have used it now for 4 months (normal daily use) and the plastic wire skin where the wire connects to the lightning connector is separating, thereby exposing the inner wire shielding. I'm sure it will short out soon and stop working. Hopefully, it will not damage my iPhone. Seems like this is something that no one should have to replace in 4 months. Not very happy with the build quality.

Useless if your iPhone is in a case. I have the Apple leather case and the lightning end doesn't fit.
