Filmed in the dense, tropical rain forests of Peru, Amazonia presents one of the lushest and most complex ecosystems on Earth. Breath-taking images and perceptive narration introduce some of that jungle's million species - including tapirs, monkeys, brilliant birds, and enormous reptiles. But all is not well along the Amazon. Deforestation may soon destroy the entire forest leaving only barren desert. This will mean much more than the sad extinction of the ocelot and the amazing giant river otter. We will lose important undiscovered foods and medicines and, most alarming, we will lose the Amazon's crucial global climax control. Preservation is not a luxury, but a necessity.
