5.0 out of 5 stars An all time favorite - a must read
I first read this when I was about 14 and fell in love with the characters. This has been recently re-printed under the new title "His Bonnie Bride".

2.0 out of 5 stars Reader Alert!
This book was re-titled HIS BONNIE BRIDE and published again in 2004. Don't buy it twice. In fact, after reading it, I wouldn't recommend you buy it once. Really reads like the work of a beginner in the Historical Romance field, complete with all the worst cliches and a heroine who saves the day and brings peace, happiness and love to her Medieval world. The maturity of...

5.0 out of 5 stars An all time favorite - a must read, December 13, 2004
This review is from: Amber Flame (Paperback)
I first read this when I was about 14 and fell in love with the characters. This has been recently re-printed under the new title "His Bonnie Bride".

The story starts with the battle between the Eldons of England and the MacLagans of Scotland, who have been sworn enemies for centuries. We meet a 10-year-old Storm for the first time, who endears herself to her families' enemies, and leaves a mark on Tavis MacLagan, her future lover. Seven years later and Tavis stumbles upon her by accident and ends up saving her from the advances of Sir Hugh, but in return she was taken as a hostage. Of course we know the other reason for this, but that is what makes this book so exciting. As the story progresses, Storm and Tavis find themselves more and more drawn to each other. Storm falls in love with Tavis, and Tavis finds himself struggling to suppress his feelings for her for fear of being burned once again.

The main characters are very likeable. Storm is funny, quick-witted, passionate and strong. And she certainly doesn't mince words! Tavis is handsome and sexy and a perfect match for her. You will love every moment of them together, and will laugh at all their fights. The author has done really well to make the readers feel for the characters. This is a very sweet, witty and exciting novel, spiced up more by the sizzling love scenes. The appearance of their family also adds to the fun of the story.

I wish that there would be a sequel, as this book is a real favorite. Don't miss this one. A wonderful book to add to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amber Flame, December 28, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Amber Flame (Paperback)
Amber flame was the first romance novel I ever read. I found it in a local drug store for two dollars and from the beging I could not put the book down. I was caught in the story from the start. I loved Storm her will and charactor was a wonderfull twist on other females in romance novels. She was so strong and till the very end faught for herself. I loved her strong will and her graudual process of falling in love with Tavis. I did feel sorry for her in the beging but came to love both charactors through out the book. I loved how Tavis orginally statted using her as a way to show power but then became protective of her and fell in love with her. But even till the very end of the book (like a true man) would not confess his love. I loved the scene where they parted and the scene where they came back together. And I was happy for the wonderfully happy ending I couldn't have asked for more. If I could recomend any book this would be it. From start to finish you will love this book. And I thank Hannah Howell for giving me such easy charactors to love. I look forward to reading more of her books.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read, August 27, 2002

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Once I started reading the book, I couldn't put the book down! The characters are well developed, and Hannah Howell did a great job on the plot. The only thing is that the love that Storm felt for Tavis came to early in the story, yet didn't really give a reason to why she loved him. It's easy to see how everyone could love Storm, I was moved when she got beaten up by Sir Hugh and her stepmother. I don't see how Tavis could have accepted his exmistress back into the castle nor could I see how he could have gone back to kissing her after she told Sir Hugh of Storm's whereabouts in which she was captured and beaten badly.

All of Hannah Howell books are great, if u havent' read them, go buy them, you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars As always, a great story...., June 8, 2001

Tavis and Storm are perfect for each other. Storm is one of my favorites. She is strong willed, outspoken, honest and "calls a spade, a spade". She is incapable of mincing words. Ms Howell does a marvelous job expressing the true, deeper feelings of these two people. Couldn't put it down with so much going on in the story. Another great find at auction. If you can find a copy don't pass it up, it will be worth the search.

Really reads like the work of a beginner in the Historical Romance field, complete with all the worst cliches and a heroine who saves the day and brings peace, happiness and love to her Medieval world. The maturity of the storytelling really doesn't reflect well on later Hannah Howell efforts.

1.0 out of 5 stars distasteful storyline spoils book for me......, April 22, 2008
This review is from: Amber Flame (Paperback)
I guess I'm getting too jaded in my Romance reading but I'm sick of the "hostage falls for her captor" storyline. I just cannot drum up any positive feelings for a hero who has kidnapped a rival clan's laird's daughter and plans to "deflower" her, supposedly willingly though she is his captive, and knowing that he won't marry her and that this will ruin her.

We all know where this is heading-the heroine, though her "power of love" changes his mind and they live happily ever after. It's still too "forced" and coerced to be romantic. I for one would like to see more Medieval heroes written with some sort of honor. Especially nauseating was how the hero tried to seduce the heroine while have to get her nine year old cousin out of her bed, who was trying to protect her.

Not recommended-no stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Maravillosamente!, November 11, 1998

This review is from: Amber Flame (Paperback)
Amber Flame was the first romance I'd ever read. In addition, it was also the first book I'd ever read in one sitting. To this day, when I read it, I'm still moved. The plot is great, the characters are believable and warm.

I am an avid reader. Its safe to say I can go through a book like this in 4 hours so take my word that I have read a lot of books and this is my favorite. I have read it over and over. I cry and laugh at the same places each time. I will never give this book up. So my advise is, if you see this book buy it! You will not regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Hannah's first books, August 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Amber Flame (Paperback)
This book is a must for all Hannah Howell fans. I must confess that I have read all her many books and am now going back to find some of her earlier books. If you are a dedicated fan it is very hard to wait between her new books. There is not any author like her that I have read and I have read a lot!
You can tell this is one of the first books that Howell wrote. She combines all her elements that she uses in all her books, the tall handsome Scot and the wee female with the cat like eyes! I like how she combines the English, Scottish and the Irish points of view in this tale. The story is beautiful and if you love Hannah Howell you will not want to miss this book!
