Beautiful Music,
By Mark Klafter (Norfolk, NE United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Amber Skies (Audio CD)
This is one of the best albums of the 1980's and one of the best albums of David Friesen's career. Many moods are evoked out of the interplay among this all-star gathering, with Joe Henderson, Chick Corea, Airto, Paul Horn and Paul Motian. Mr. Friesen's Oregon bass (the instrument he was using at the time, he now uses a similar instrument called the Hemage bass) never sounded better on record, with a full, round, melodic sound and powerful feel. Highlights are In the Place of Calling, Amber Skies and Sitka in the Woods. Vital, marvelous music.
