This review is from: Amber Sports 160-Pound Threaded Weight Set (Sports)
As indicated in my title, the only problem--if you can call it that--with this weight set is the cheap paint. I'll get to that in a second.
First, this weight set is a great value. It's very sturdy--I don't believe the bars are hollow, and both the long bar and the dumbbell handles are comfortable to grip. The collars screw on tight and are very secure. Sure, the spin collars mean it takes longer to change weights in between sets, but that's a swap I'm willing to make for the safety aspect (I don't want to lose any teeth while doing tricep extensions with a dumbbell!). Is it what you'd find in a gym? Of course not, but it's as good as plate dumbbells get, and the quality and sturdiness are great. Other than the inconvenience of time lost changing weights--which again is a sacrifice I'm more than willing to make for the more secure collars--there's no downside. As a grad student who has access to a gym but not always the time to get there, this set is perfect for me to keep at home. The paint's another story. It doesn't bother me, because my weights are currently in the garage, and when I do move them inside I'll obviously be keeping them on a rubber mat so they won't touch my carpet. The paint doesn't chip off, exactly, it sort of rubs off on your hands (and clothes. Of course, you probably wouldn't be wearing anything nice while lifting anyway, but just a word of warning--don't wear anything you don't want black paint to rub off on if the weights come in contact with your clothes. It washes out easily, but still). I just got my weight set today and have only done a couple of sets to try it out, so it's not like the paint lasts for a while and then starts to fade--it will start rubbing off the minute you get it. That's why I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5. So, to sum up: if you need dumbbells and a straight bar, this is a great value. The bars and dumbbell handles are sturdy, and the collars secure. But be warned that the paint is as bad as it comes--you'll always pull your hand away with black smudged on your fingers, so be sure you have a rubber mat to store the plates on. If that doesn't bother you (as it doesn't bother me) then you will be pleased with this product.

Disappointed...,
Pretty disappointed in the quality of the weights. A ton of paint was already scratched off of the weights and even still when I pick them up paint rubs off on my hands.
