4.0 out of 5 stars A nice survey of American clarinet music, September 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Amber Waves (Audio CD)
This is good overview of American clarinet music. Most of the pieces and movements are fairly short. The brief Gershwin Preludes (Heifetz's violin arrangement is superior but the clarinet sounds more appropriate) are a good opener. The other pieces range from straight classical to more jazzy.

I would give this CD 5 stars, but there are a few things missing. The lack of variety in tone color can make this CD a little monotonous. The conspicuous absence of something by Aaron Copland, one of the greatest composers for the clarinet (American or whatever) is also disappointing. His Clarinet Sonata would have made a good addition.
