Historic,....That is the only word that I can use to describe Ambergris Perfume Oil. I opened the bottle, as soon as I got it,...expecting to smell a cheap, "friendly" commercial version of Ambergris. I was INSTANTLY surprised and marveled. As a world traveler and a scholar of ancient history/religions, I have been many places on this earth, and Ambergris is one of my favorite fragrances, as it is unisex, inspiring , and powerful in the most subtle fashion. One of the reviewers mentioned that this esteemed fragrance smelled "smokey". To a mature nose, that is the first sign that this product is made from true organic Ambergris. Ambergris, originates in the hindguts of spermwhales, and ONLY after months, sometimes years of drying out, maturing, does it become ready for use. Freshly produced ambergris has a marine, fecal odor. However, as it ages, it acquires a sweet, earthy scent commonly likened to the fragrance of smoke, or rubbing alchohol. The principal historical use of ambergris was as a fixative in perfumery, though it has now been largely displaced by synthetics. Ambergris, and its use in seduction is as legendary as the fragrance itself. Madame du Barry used the scent of ambergris to hold the love interest of Louis XV (circa 1768-1774) Cleopatra was said to wear Ambergris to seduce Mark Anthony, and had the fragrance banned all throughout egypt by death, so that ONLY she could wear the fragrance. The legendary love between Alexander the Great and his childhood friend, Hephaistion was said to have been fostered by Ambergris oil, as Hephaistion was said to have worn it so that Alexander would long for him while away on his war campaigns. Needless to say, when Hephaistion died, legends says that Alexander was so distraught he burned much ambergris, as an offering to the Gods. It was said that the intoxicating fragrance could be smelt from miles around, as Alexander mourned the loss of his true love. In classical antiquity, writers such as Herodotus, Plato, Xenophon, Athenaeus, told that the great God Zeus was seduced by Alcmena through the use of Ambergris (perfume and maybe eaten or placed in wine ) , and after night of passion , the Greek demigod Heracles was conceived. Ambergris has a varied and wonderful history that reaches far back into history, and into the lives of some of the world's most influential individuals, as the used this divine fragrance to seduce, control, and express their love.

This scent is unique and very intense, therefore it's hard to express in words what it smells like.Ambergris by Madini is the real thing (from the whales), masterfully blended. Not for the shy or faint at heart! You'll either love it or hate it. I'm one that loves it!

I tried this one and one made by "Caswell-Massey" Ambergris. This one to me smells like I had been sitting in front of a campfire or smoking grill! Not very pleasant. But, it's cheap enough you could try it for yourself...and then toss it if I'm correct. If I were you, I'd try the "Caswell-Massey" Ambergris first. boland7214@aol.com

I used to wear Ambergris oil all the time, the distributor was Sunshine Perfume Oils, as they no longer carry ambergris I took a chance on this. BIG mistake! It smells nothing like the ambergris I was used to- smells more like ipecac syrup! Just horrible.

This is the stuff of dreams.Rich, long lasting, heavy, powerful, smooth, lush, erotic! Paradise in a tiny bottle! Not for the timid, prudish, teenagers, or for those who buy fragrances at the mall. A fragrance for adult women and the men who adore them! And it would be devastating on the right man as well! Madini used to have many other fragrances, but over the years the selection got smaller and smaller, sadly. I miss Sharazad, Varondandie, and the wondrous Asma. I'm glad I got them when they were available. You simply cannot go wrong with Madini fragrance. Cheers! |
