Incredible release from one of the greatest in ambient music,
By Jean-François Prémont (Ancienne-Lorette, Québec Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ambiant Otaku (Audio CD)
This incredible ambient album had been released in 1994 and was 500 copies limited. The music showcase the amazing talents of Japaneese- Tetsu Inoue and is well worth its reissue last April. What we have here is haunting and contemplative atmospherics mixed with field source recordings and sparse percussion. The slow building atmosphere leads to awesome soundscapes and dreamy textures.Minimalistic, environmental and innovative sounds are only some of the adjectives worth describing this record : they don't make ambient albums like this one nowadays.A must for those who like FAX and the Pete Namlook posse.Afterwards, you might wanna check two other outstanding ambient releases:"World receiver"/by Tetsu and Monolake:"Gobi the desert" as well. They're both in the similar vein and framework....

This cd will send you to outspace via your inner space. In no small way this is the most powerful ambient album every released to date. The lack of popularity of this cd is only due to the original limited release and re-release. In the ambient world this is a seminal album has influenced many great artist and should provide a launching pad for many more future geniuses to move us into ever more exciting spaces. You own it to yourself to seek out and listen to this cd. Who knows where it might take you.

Pleasent Frequencies,
This review is from: Ambiant Otaku (Audio CD)
Ambiant Otaku is one of the most inviting ambient albums. Each piece is typically long (10-15 min. +) and radiates some of the most magnificent and charged chords I've experienced. Holy Dance is brilliant as is Karmic Light yet the journey catches expectations way off guard.A striking and somewhat spiritual effort by the ambient master Tetsu Inoue.

Brilliant album, but best bought elsewhere..,
This review is from: Ambiant Otaku (Audio CD)
Tetsu Inoue's Ambient Otaku is indeed a brilliant piece of electronica. As the years pass by, many of the ambient albums from the mid-nineties age and fall away into obscurity, but there is a genuinely timeless warmth and appeal in Inoue's first Fax Records venture, which will draw you back in time and time again. For a more in-depth analysis of the music, check out 2350.org or peruse some of the other reviews available here. Do not, however be lured into to paying some of the ridiculous prices that this album appears for in the Amazon market-place. The original Fax Records release was limited to 1000 copies, and regularly sells on Ebay for around $100. Quite a hefty price, a definitely one geared towards compulsive Fax collectors who seek original pressings. The Ambient World re-issue (as pictured and listed here) is worth, in effect, nothing; on a collectable platform. $30 would be reasonable, but anything over that is pure exploitation. There are many sites (including Itunes) which offer this album for download at retail prices, but if you must own a copy of the disc, I'd advise you to look elsewhere.

Lose Yourself in Space,

I have searched far & wide for this album only to determine that a thousand copies were pressed in '94 and it has since gone out of print. For months I watched online auctions and the title never emerged until yesterday when I found an indie music label site. www.emusic.com has a 3 tier subscription model and gives you 50 free downloads before it starts charging your card. IMO registration alone was totally worth it b/c I found Ambiant Otaku! I can't speak highly enough of Tetsu's work. If you're looking for this must have album then visit emusic and you won't be disappointed. There are also 3 other CDs by the same artist plus an entire lineup of outstanding indie bands. Highly recommended.

Truly Drinkable...,
By
This review is from: Ambiant Otaku (Audio CD)
Inoue follows Brian Eno through the early development of ambient processes - fluid tracks with thick thematic layering. Obviously, he is an avid student of the original masters (Eno, Ferry, et al). Like Eno, Inoue produces "drinkable" tracks that are exquisitely detailed and intelligent. Unlike Eno, he avoids mechanical repetition merely for the sake of experimenting with technology. Rather, you can hear words; lyrics and storytelling laced within the complex nest of harmonics. You sense emotions along with mood swings - highly sophisticated expressions that are poetic and philosophical. If you are new to Inoue, pick up World Receiver or Ambiant Otaku - you will not be disappointed. By the way, if you are wondering about the spelling of the word - it's "ambient" - I think Inoue's spelling is a product of artistic license. - tally ho! (HP)

Classic Ambient,

This is just a very good ambient CD in every way. Even the reissue is becoming hard to find, for understandable reasons.

Ambient all the way,
By Juergen (The Netherlands) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ambiant Otaku (Audio CD)
Tetsu Inoue's 'Ambiant Otaku' is ambient all the way with strange dreamy sounds, long synth passages and only occasionally some (very subtle) beats . This is what ambient music should be like and this is how it was meant to be. Forget about all those 'artists' who refer to their 'music' as 'ambient music' and then deliver nothing more but some plain aggressive electronical music with very hard-hitting beats that make no sense. Believe me, that is NOT ambient music. If you really want to hear some great ambient music, buy 'Ambiant Otaku'. If you find this album hard to get, try to import it directly from Japan (just like i did), it's worth the effort.
