5.0 out of 5 stars Great sampling of ambient tunes April 2, 2001
Format:Audio CD
Most of the works in this compilation are of a more leisurely, relaxing pace. Some ambient music is more appropriate for a chill out room at a club, but this seems better suited for relaxing at home with a few friends or alone. The majority of the songs are very soothing and melodic, gradually lulling you in a half-lidded, restful state. The music itself is fairly minimalist, opting for carefully chosen and assembled tones over a wall of noise. Sometimes it almost feels as though you are drifting through space. My favorite tracks are Omicron's Nightfall, Selway's Inside Wasting Time, Human Mesh Dance's Freefall, and Escape Tank's Room 9.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ambient unlike any other September 15, 2008
Format:Audio CD
This is *by far* the most unusual, and perhaps most cherished, of all the ambient collections I own. The compositions tend towards naked minimalism, the production is crystalline and otherworldly, but mostly it's the sounds themselves that get me.

This music was made in a time when computers were minimally involved in electronic music, samplers and synths ruled the day and the different paradigms those pieces of hardware engender, as well as the lack of standardized stylistic approaches and genre-specific idioms that eventually boxed in the sounds of electronic music, often resulted in music that blows away anything coming out these days in terms of originality, depth, and personality.

These 2 cd's are not for everyone, they are often icelike and bleak in the way I imagine a Saturnine moon to be. But there is incredible beauty within, and if you are the sort that can appreciate it, you may find this becoming one of your favorite compilations as well.

Enjoy the search!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good double CD mix of ambient pieces October 23, 2006
Format:Audio CD
Two CDs of not-at-all dancey stuff. Some of the tracks have a slight Middle Eastern flavor to them. The moods vary quite a bit, from mellow to unsettling to spacey. A definite bargain.
